LACC has canceled summer 2010 =[

Read it in the school newspaper.

This could very well affect my goal of transferring by Fall 2011.

go to another cc for 1.5 months. problem solved.

Valley and Pierce most likely will have a summer session

pcc has more $$ than LA cc’s, and will probably have more summer classes

yup definitely go to another schools, many cc’s cancelled winter and summer sessions and many cut their class sections by half. This economy blows! Good luck!

Summer session too? I read in the newspaper that Winter was cancelled, but I didn’t see the news for Summer.

i heard pierce cancelled summer 2010 as well. it might be a rumor but you should check it out.

Well their winter schedule is coming out soon so it would be odd that they’d cancel summer

Hiroshi66-Yeah it’s in there. On page 4 of the newspaper I believe.

This really sucks. Especially because I need to keep advancing in math classes so I can eventually get to Business Calc by Fall 2010. =[ Ugghh!

Ahh! I’ll check it out.

But do we have Business Calc at LACC?

Yeah we do. I believe it’s Math 136 and Math 137. Business Calc 1 and 2, but they NEVER offer the second course for some reason. That’s why I’ll have to take Business Calc elsewhere within the district.

Does anyone know if I can take other levels of math elsewhere? For example, I’ll be completing Elementary Algebra this semester, but due to budget cuts some sessions like Winter and Summer might not be offered within the LACCD. So if I end up going to GCC or PCC can I enroll in their Intermediate Algebra course without taking those dreaded placement tests? I do absolutely horrible on those for some reason.

Maybe if you supply transcripts? I’m not sure.

Larinaga, who usually teaches Math 136 at LACC?
I’m taking Math 124B right now, and in the Spring I’m going to do 227 (Stats). Can’t decide between 227 or 245 (College Algebra). And then there’s always Math 230 (Liberal Arts Students). I’m a Japanese major so it doesn’t really matter which one I do, haha.

Hiroshi66-I think different teachers teach it. Last semester someone else taught it. Currently, Professor Plotquin is teaching it.

Lucky you! I need to take a Calculus course and I’m not willing to take ‘regular’ Calculus because I have to jump through so many hoops to get up to that level. If I complete Math 125 I’ll be able to enroll in Business Calc. If I can’t take Math 125 this Winter then I’ll take it in the Spring and then I’ll have to take Math 227 (Stats) in the Summer session if it’s offered somewhere within the district. If not, then I’ll have to take two math classes (Business Calc and Stats) in the Fall which is gonna be tough!

Ah, that’s gonna be tough! I just wish LACC offered Winter classes!

sad news indeed.

SMC will have both winter and summer sessions as far as I’m concerned. I mean, they’re cutting 50% of classes (horrible) but there might still be a chance you can get in somewhere.

I only have one class left (Math 200 level) so I guess I can wait until Spring. This way I’ll just have one transcript (from the community college I currently attend.) But for students who still need many courses, I think they should try SMC, GCC, or PCC for the summer/winter sessions.
