Sadness....

125 AMC 12/9 AIME. Only 2 points off from USAMO :(

I'm probably the closest person to miss the index (217). I bet there's no one with a 215.5-216.5.

OK, sorry for the rant. I was really close to the USAMO, and it stings.

But how are these scores for a math guy applying to Caltech next year? Are they impressive, or just average?

Those are very impressive scores, yes. A junior being 2 points away from qualifying is a very good result.

That's too bad meanvalue. I had a similar situation last year, but I made it this year, so there's always hope for the future. I don't know if this is any comfort, but there were people with 216.5 out there.

They're impressive. :) Are you trending upward or downward? I had this weird tendency to trend downward after taking trig -- I think the more advanced math classes I took, the less creatively I thought. I'm glad I broke the pattern this year, though.

(Tetrahedr0n, have I seen you on AoPS?)

I qualified for the USAMO freshman and junior year but not sophomore and senior year. Weird, eh?

Yeah, that' the "opposite" of how it normally is.

Yup, I think so.

Eh, thanks for everyone's sympathies. A 9th grader from my school made it, though. :!
