Berkeley is urban, but it IS a college town and there are usually tons of students around. I would not advise young women to walk alone at night in any town. Berkeley students have a lot of fairly safe spaces to wander around in. Berkeley feels A LOT safer than USC and there is tons more to do, especially for those without cars. It's a great place to live for four years.

I thought south side was the safe side lol.

What?! Then again, northside isn't much safer anyway.

Berkeley is a large beautiful campus with a gorgeous view of the SF bay. The weather is usually nice, although often quite windy and cool. For safety, I would say that Berkeley is comparable to other large, urban campuses and definitely agree about it being a safer area than USC!

I also wouldn't recommend walking alone at night through the darker areas of campus. But there are nights escorts and shuttles available.

Brass knuckles with you. AT ALL TIMES!!!
And a can of axe to use as pepper spray. get matches or a lighter too and you can become rorshach from The Watchmen.

What happens in the not so safe spots of Berkeley?

^ not so safe things.

lol 10char

A guy my dad works with came out of Berkeley last year and he was telling me he got mugged for cash twice while he was there (4 years). It didn't get violent or anything, the hobo just needed some cash. The guy still thinks it is really safe.

if i ever get mugged i'm going to fight back (serious)

aha mech i feel ya. i would too if i weren't afraid that they whip out a hot one and pull the damn trigger out of nervousness.

and smurphy...why else would someone mug someone else? Not many for fun I would presume...

DO IT! I know three people who fought back and got their stuff without getting injured. Don't be scared to stand up for yourself.
