Safe from Xenophobia?

Thank you, people. Thanx, Wardenx! Thanx, Carolyn!

Really, I don't trust these discussions, carolyn, they're only words.

I saw the movie "Dr. Zhivago", it's about 1920s years, we read it in school, its author Pasternak was moved in America because of Communist Revolution. I didn't find anything wrong in this movie. Usual film about revolution of 80 years ago.

I don't even know. I only see this goal, see and go to it, through all adversities to America. As i said before it's my dream to visit America as a student of solid university.

WRITE people!

It varies, carolyn. I saw an article saying how the fact that most international students want to stay in the country after they finish their studies and how they take up the jobs and places Americans could have, which basically hurts the economy. Depends on who you are and how you look at things like that. ;)

I consider you are misinformed. I do not intend to be rude, but if you would know economics you would realize that having foreigners working does not balk economic growth, it fosters it. It is only a matter of being qualified for the job, not of nationality.
We are not stealing jobs from you Americans!, believe me. Maybe it is just a matter of you not taking advantage of the opportunities you have.
I am a Mexican applying for tops Ph.D. in Political Science progarms. I speak three languages (how many do you?) as the majority of Mexican universities' students. I have an excelent academic record, and here we do not have the choice of selecting which courses to take, calculus, advanced economics, and so on, are mandatory. I have tons of EA which is uncommon in my counrty. Yet, it is going to be harder for me to be accepted, than it is going to be for an American. I have to work harder that them because my native language is not English, and it is going to be waaay more expensive.
I want to be a professor in the US, because it is the best place to do research on my area. If there is a better candidate for a job, they will hire her/him. But If I got the job it is not going to be because I am stealing it, but because I am the best person for it.
In the US you have numerous opportunities for developping academically that we do not have, but sometimes you fail to notice that. Instead of complaining, study harder, be the best you can be, and there is going to be no foreigner who will be able to defeat you. I repeat, I am not trying to be rude, but your comment is a bit offensive.

I very appreciate you, mariana. I think working human should not be American or International, working human must be the best regardless her/nis nationality.

In many ways, international are the best, so sorry, Americans, don't bother.

I just have to comment that we all are international, Americans as well... :)

some of this is pretty funny

And some of it is rather sad... ;)

agreed
..........

This thread has degenerated into a discussion that is way off of the topic of college admissions. I am closing it.
