Safe to Apply to one University

I submitted my application to the University of South Carolina a couple weeks ago (the 13th I think), and I honestly don’t see myself going anywhere else. For starters I want to stay in Columbia (I don’t want to stay in dorms). I’m like 100% sure I’ll be accepted, regardless of scholarships. (I got a 1940 on my Oct SAT, haven’t gotten my Nov scores yet, rank 5 out of 441, and have a weighted GPA of 4.75) My counselor says I should apply to at least another college to be sure, but would that really be necessary?

Well, it’s really only “safe” if you don’t mind not going to college if by some odd chance you don’t get admitted to USC.

It’s only a complete safety if it’s auto-admit and if you can afford it-- do you need FA?

If the school has rolling admissions or if you applied EA/ED (I don’t know what options the school has) and will hear back by December, then you are fine as you will have time to get other applications in in the unlikely event that you are not accepted. If you will not hear until the spring then I’d have to agree with your guidance counselor’s suggestion to play it very safe and put in another application or two.

I wouldn’t but it’s up to you. Applying to another school or two wouldn’t hurt you because you never know when it comes to admissions, sometimes you don’t get into schools you should be a shoe in for.

no FA, I was just hoping for scholarships

well I’ll hear back by December, so I figure I’ll wait and see
