Long story short my job isn’t the most cooperative with schedules (I work only Saturday and Sunday and have soccer every other day of the week) so I tried to keep one day open in February just in case I got a call. Now my boss wants me to work that day and I want to pick it up if I can safely assume there’s a greater possibility that I don’t get interviewed than if I do. I live in South Carolina and I applied RD in October (wanted to get it out of the way early). This goes for 3 other schools that conduct alumni interviews. Thoughts?
I would’ve thought that you’d hear about February interviews at this point.
Have you been contacted by any of the colleges?
If not, doubtful you will be. However, if you live in SC and not near a big city, there may not be local alumni available to interview you. It’s possible that you might be offered a Skype or phone interview; my Ivy alma mater does that after other RD interviews are completed, as late as end of February.
I would not worry about it, as long as you are checking the email you applied with, and the phone you listed, you didn’t miss anything. But many Ivy alumni interviewers are flexible, so if you do get contacted, try to fit in an interview. I would NOT decline an Ivy interview. I cannot believe that you couldn’t fit in at least a phone interview - otherwise how do you have time for schoolwork?
The interviews are a half hour, maybe a bit more, at most. It’s not like you will lose your job if you take a long lunch some day (will you?).
@rhandco None of the colleges have contacted me except for Hopkins because I had to go on their website and sign up for it. The only follow up I received from them was an e-mail telling me that due to interview shortages not everyone would get interviewed and it had no weight on the application. Regardless, I feel it would give me the full application experience to at least experience one interview from an interviewing school, and I would definitely make it happen if I received a request. Job isn’t very lenient on scheduling so tried to make it as easy as possible to work something out.
