Is it safe to drink the water? My room-mates drink it all the time but it has that funny metal smell to it. Not sure if that is me just being paranoid but what do you say?

That’s Cville water…I miss it sigh. Try getting a Brita filter, that did wonders and made the water taste fantastic (had the minerally taste but wasn’t “thick” or metallic). Go to bedbathandbeyond.com, sign up for a 20% off, then head to Barracks and get on for about $30 included some replacement filters.

lol… alright thanks
I’ll try to get a filter tomorow

I used to try filters in Brown and it still tasted gross. I would go to the water fountain down the hall, that was okay, and also I would make ice cubes from the tap water and they tasted okay then too…

I have some water bottles in my dorm room and an electric kettle, so I just boil the tap water, leave it there until it cools down, then pour the water into the bottles. I mostly drink from water fountains elsewhere and don’t stay in the room, so I don’t have to boil too much.

The Cauthen dorm, which I lived in during summer session, has a water fountain. The water coming out of it was really cold and tasted good (actually, a bit too cold). I moved into Lile this fall expecting water fountain also, but the dorm doesn’t have one. I can probably get my water bottles and go into Cauthen for a refill, but I haven’t tried it yet.

That said, water filter is probably your best option.

Also don’t forget to fill up your water bottle when you are at the dining hall! Just put ice in it for it to last longer… ;)

What i’ve ended up doing is buying a few water bottles and then just filling them up at AFC. the water there is really good and doesn’t have a weird taste :). I would fill up at the Rec Center in North Grounds since it is much closer but the water tastes really bad. Besides i’m almost living in the AFC bball courts.
Problem Solved!

One more thing…if all else fails you can always have bottled water delivered to your room for a fee. I believe the student council (?) offers this service. I know you can buy laundry service through UVA Laundry, and if I’m not mistaken you can also get water there as well. I have no idea what they charge, but if you drink a ton of water, are picky about the taste, and get desperate, it’s available.
