SafeAssign

So, this semester I am taking an online class and the teacher wants to use SafeAssign to check for plagiarism. Which I think is great. However, SafeAssign keeps my work to build their database to prevent plagiarism.

The thing that concerns me is, it is MY work and they keep it forever. I feel like my rights are being stepped on, because I didn't grant SafeAssign to house my work.

Also, the potential problem that I see with SafeAssign is what if I go back to a pervious paper and retool and expand on an idea, will that not flag the system as a plagiarized work (of my own?) or am I just being overly concerned?

The thing is it isn’t your work anymore. It’s in the user agreement when your teacher uses SafeAssign. Your right to it is gone when your teacher submitted it. Some students actually went to court over this, I believe it was against Turnitin though. The students lost.

Actually, you did, once you uploaded your essay to them. I bet it’s in their User Agreement that you must accept to continue using their site.

"They’re not going to publish it. They’re just keeping it so that no one else copies it. "

Right, so want am I getting out of the deal?

Yeah, what Chevda said. Once you submit your work it isn’t yours anymore. It works the same in most Journals as well.

Your grade in the class.

If you have a problem, it’s with your teacher’s requirement, not with the service provided.
