Safeties and Matches in California

Hi. I'm a senior from California in look for some safety and match schools. I've got a list with plenty of reach schools that I'm trying to whittle down, but I'm really having trouble figuring out what schools would be considered safeties and matches for me. My parents and my counselor aren't being too much of a help right now, so if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

Some basic information:
GPA: 4.0 UW 4.7 W
Rank: 1/700ish
ACT: 34 writing:11
SAT II: 780 760 750

What I'm looking for:
-Schools in California
-preferably an urban campus, or at least really close to a city
-good school spirit
-not TOO small, hopefully 4000+ students

I know for sure that I'm going to apply to UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, but after that, I have no idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Aren't some of your UC's matches and safeties ?

What about USC? Not a safety because of the low admission rate, but it would appear to be a match for you.

A safety might be Loyola Marymount, L.A.

Berkeley and UCLA are matches, the rest of the UCs are safeties, USC is a match to safe match. Ones I think best fit your criteria: UC Davis (near Sacramento), UCI (sort of a city, near others), UCR (though Riverside isn't exactly a neat city). Other than that, I think you picked your matches and safeties well.

Hope Pomona is on your list! Not big, or urban, a safety, or a match, but be sure to check it out!

4.0 unweighted. Wow!

What the heck, throw in Stanford as well. Stanford loves valedictorians in case you are a candidate.

^^ the OP said he/she already has a bunch of reaches. (Post search says he/she plans to apply to Stanford anyway.)

^I know, but couldn't resist. Sweet numbers!

It's less than 4,000 students, but what about Occidental?

Match would be Claremont McKenna. Match/safety in the same complex is Pitzer and Safety if you're female is Scripps. I assume Pomona is one of your reaches?

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is another worthy Safety -- but it isn't exactly near an urban center....

what is your intended major of study? It is kind of hard to determine where to send you without at least a hint at what you want to study!

If you are NMF, USC offers 1/2 tuition scholarship. With your great stats, you might even get a larger merit award.

Might I say with that GPA and class rank, you won't need to overdo it with matches and safeties. But it is very smart to be prepared for anything.
