safeties? I'm DESPERATE

it wasnt in the worst part...theyll be up and running in no time

geneseo is harder to get into than you are giving it credit for. probably not a safety, even if it is SUNY. more like a match.

Would someone mind posting the link to the website?

Just Google counselor-o-matic (the correct name).

Thanks! I tried googling something similar but nothing came up.

You might try Univ of Michigan. Not a big city - but big college town so there is tons to do. Northwestern would be a reach - but, despite your GPA, you've got an interesting list of ECs. Are you going to continue athletics in college?

You'll get into many of the schools on your list, including Syracuse, you might add ithaca, it's not a huge city but prettty cool. for a real safety, no problem, great communications, Temple U in Philly

I might do lax..if its a division III school..not too sure though

thanks for everyones suggestions!

Ohio Univ./Miami of Ohio
UPitt.

I think you have a good balanced list. Considering the quirky nature of college admissions you can always consider an additional safety or two. Clearly, NYU is your first choice. So what are you going to do besides completing an application? Being one more bright kid from Long Island may not be enough. You need to arrange visits to meet the faculty. Are you interested in participating in music? If so, it might be a good idea to interview with the music faculty and audition. Are there any programs or workshops you can attend on the weekend? Put some energy into your top choice and hopefully you won't need the safeties.

I believe choosing safeties is THE most difficult job. Far harder than selecting your reaches and matches. Why don't you start with the area of the country you like the best. Rural or Urban. If cost is a factor consider that element--scholarship money with your credentials which are impressive even tho you are "another bright kid" (don't dismiss yourself--lots of schools will pay you to attend, they're just not the top 50). Size of school--large or small. Religious affiliated or non.
If Virginia appeals to you, they are loaded with schools from which you could choose. The key is to find one you wouldn't mind attending if you were rejected everywhere else. Sadly it can happen. I saw it with a kid in D's class ahead of her--applied to all top 50 schools. Rejected everywhere. Parents livid at school and college counselor. Figure a 50% rejection rate for yourself as a rough gage of what to expect.
Give us an idea where you want to attend and everyone will chime in with selections.

thanks music..this is what im looking for

NOT a small school..it could be an average-to large one

preferably not affiliated with any religion

communications program

internships accessible

be in some type of a city..or VERY closeby

within 6 hours of long island

not everyone being same..i want some diversity

heres my most updated list:

matches/reaches

Tufts- ED II
Syracuse
Boston College

geneseo

Safety schools
Northeastern
Penn state

try www.princetonreview.com

How about Ithaca College? Sort of a match/likely... has a great communications program and seems to be in your geographic area of interest. And it's a greaaattttt school.

did someone say the college of new rochelle? DONT go there.

haha its ok..this was back in august..I got into nyu so im set :)

and just a note: i think a lot of people here are completely wrong about matches/safeties..I'll never know from most of my schools bc I got in ED..but I did find out from a few EA ones: I got into pennstate and tulane..I even got a 5000 merit scholarship from NYU. I know people w/much lower stats than myself who got into tulane..and someone here called it a reach for me. I think from being around all these crazy CC kids with 1600s and 4.0s people think having a 3.63 and 1320 won't get you into a good college and that's obviously not true
