safeties in THIS economy? fml.

i would really appreciate some safety suggestions i'm kind of at a loss for places i can not only get in but get in with some aid.

stats:
gpa: 3.55
rank: doesn't rank, avg gpa bout a 3.7-3.8
sat 1: 2230: m: 790 cr: 730 w: 710 (11 on essay!)
act: 31 (retaking hoping for a 33/34)
just took subject tests today but predicting: us history: 750, math 2: 700, spanish: 710

great extra curriculars-lotsa leadership, community service, commitment
recs: probably one excellent, one good, and a good counselor one
essay: i'm usually pretty good with essays!

prospective major: international relations/economics/polisci

current list of safeties:
clark
upitt

any other safety suggestions? i don't qualify for need based aid but with this economy i don't have enough to pay full tuition most places without be saddled in loans so places i could get some merit aid would be helpful too!

i appreciate the help. if you'd like me to chance back i'm happy to! ^_^

What state do you live in? Those stats are probably good enough for full tuition at most public in-state universities.

so your GPA is below the average? your school must be pretty easy.

i loled at the title :stuck_out_tongue: so true
anyways i think safeties depend on where you live…in state tuition is usually a great lightener moneywise  also consider a bunch of the UC schools as your stats are pretty strong, imo… like UCLA, UCI, etc
erm…lets see…UOhio, Bryn Mawr, Villanova, Temple U would probably be good safeties. the last 3 are all in PA (from what i remember living there for 4 years) so, same state as UPitt…so you might wanna consider those  good luck!
p.s. chance me back if you have time? :P

i live in virginia so it’s pretty much really good schools or not-so good schools. i’m looking for something in between

to north_face: completely opposite. my school’s really hard and full of overachievers. the avg sat score is like 2190 i think.

thanks fuzzyfirebunny! i don’t know much about most of those schools and i’m looking to stay on the east coast but i think i’ll go look them up. i’d be happy to chance you back! and yes title is soooo true. i figured it would catch people’s attention!

You have tons of choices in VA. What about JMU and Mason? You could try for American and GW, although I’m not sure how much aid you’d get.
