ajay - the name of that university is oakland university in michigan

^ That college sucks money indirectly. No fee waivers. And you have to send your school reports to WES for evaluation thats another $120!

but it gives merit aid to international students and btw whats a 120 when you get a 16000$ off?huh

ps- whats WES

another thing i am still trying to figure out- how do i apply for a fee waiver, how do i get my Counsellor to fill in the nacac aiver when she doesn't know anything abt me or my family?
my high school is obviously not on the ceeb code list and not a member of the nacac list.

just a letter from guidance counselor referring fee waiver in the GC's admission packet containing transcripts would do fine.

I want a college that will be my very last resort, provided I dont admission into any that I m applying. I will be happy to go to 2nd tiers rather than waste another year. Can u suggest me some state u where we can go with 5000 bucks with scholarships

Many state universities has tuition of about 3000-7000 .But you will have to stay outside the college to minimize the cost so i don't think that is gud. Why don't u search college board with tuition less than 5000 i hope u will find many
best,

Shreya--

Did you study at IIT Kanpur? Your username got me curious. :)

well i didn't study there- how can i? i am going to apply for undergrad.
but you'r right- i live in IIT kanpur- my dad is a professor here.

Shreya, I suggest you check out this thread - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/417505-you-people-should-apply-here-iit.html

And my apologies if I sound brash, but that's my honest opinion.

tetris- i totally agree with you -
i actually took commerce so i did not have the pressure of giving IIT jee(plus i am not that smart+i don't like science numericals)

but a lot of the things on the thread are wrong.

the best undergraduate life in India exists in the IITs.
sports does indeed exist here(please come to udghosh- IIT k's sports fest and you'll see)
they have money too compared to other places in India.

and anyway- i just live in the campus- i don't actually study there.

I believe no international students in US get full ride scholarships. But you can consider taking loans.

I disagree. Full rides are rare but they do happen.

some full rides are available. Carleton, for example, grants 6 full rides to internationals every year. However, they're not so generous with the rest of the international pool.

No full scholarships as safeties. You have to pay atleast 10k. Also, since you are from India you belong to a bigger pool so admission is harder anyways. Because, you are competing with many other Indian students. I know some people who are in my college from really poor countries and they have full scholarships.

What are you talking about Dave ? I have a full ride to a certain college, but it is my safety. I am applying to other better colleges with financial aid though. Worst case I can go free.

BTW that college is rolling basis, so I know from a few weeks ago.

danhernan, would you mind sharing your full-ride safety with us?

The University of New Orleans provides full scholarships (tuition, room, board, book allowance) to internationals and with appropriate stats it could be considered a safety I guess (the scholarship requires just a 27 on the ACT and a 3.5 GPA, so it should be a sure bet with e.g. a 33 on the ACT and a 3.8 GPA)
Undergraduate Scholarships for Out-of-State Residents

(Note that usually out-of-state resident scholarships exclude international students, but not at UNO)

I have the Chancellor Scholarship at UNO. International students apply for the out of state scholarship. The only difference between the "pure international student" and out of state residents is the SAT.

From what I know those scholarships are based on first come first serve. I applied around the very first days of October and received a response on November 1. It is key that you apply early.

ok. thanks danhernan
