safeties

What are good safety schools for someone who is applying to the ivies?

why are you just interested in ivies?

Did I ever say that? I said I am applying to the ivies because they are generally the most selective colleges in America, and I wanted to give everyone the level of schools I am considering.

What can your family afford? One usual safety is your in-state flagship.

However, not all in-state flagships can be considered safeties. For example, Michigan considers “level of interest” in admissions.

And many instate flagships aren’t affordable because they often don’t give great aid.

What state are you in?

how much will your parents pay?

What is your likely major?

Which ivies do you like and why…so we can consider schools with similar vibes, etc.

What are your stats? It’s impossible to select “safeties” for you without knowing your qualifications. Just because you say you want to apply to the Ivies doesn’t say much. For all we know you are not remotely qualified. And even if you are, more than 90% of people who apply to them get rejected each year.

And, since safeties HAVE to be affordable (otherwise they can’t be safeties), we need to know what the financial situation is.

If the parents will pay $55k+ for any school, we could probably name a bunch of safeties…there are many decent privates (and publics) out there that will take a full pay student with “good enough” stats.

But, if the student needs FA or merit scholarships in order to afford college, we need to know that (and the stats) to make appropriate recommendations. Since MOST safeties give lousy need-based aid, if you need aid, then you’ll need to find the ones that give large merit scholarships.
