Safety Issues at East Campus?

I am a class of 2017 pre-frosh looking into dorms at MIT. I'm particularly interested in East Campus, but my mom isn't. She's primarily worried about how East Campus builds a lot of things that could be safety hazards. Are there any statistics about injuries at MIT by dorm? Does anyone know if there have been problems in the past with people getting hurt from East Campus's roller coasters? Do the structures East Campus builds ever fall apart?

To my knowledge, no one’s been injured from EC’s roller coasters or other structures, and I’ve never seen one fall apart. These structures aren’t just thrown together, but they are carefully planned, and the City of Cambridge has to approve larger structures.

EC roller coasters are built by MIT engineers. If you were having a roller coaster built, would you trust an MIT engineer?

Also, if you don’t want to ride the roller coaster or participate in building things, nobody will make you. And if you did want to ride the roller coaster or participate in building, but you didn’t live in EC, nobody would prevent you.

Living in EC will not make you more likely to be injured than you otherwise would be.

We’re pretty careful. Structures are designed and CADed months in advance so they can be approved by EHS, and we get permits from City of Cambridge for our fort (which means they’ve been reviewed by a structural engineer).

There’s no reason to raise up old threads. This died one and a half months ago.

And this could have died yesterday at 11 am. :p

I think it’s worth telling people to be aware of the timeline of threads so that they don’t raise future threads from the dead. Much like I think it’s worth it to clarify to you! :P
