Right now I'm looking to apply to: UCLA, USC, UC Irvine, UCSD, Stanford, NYU, Purdue, Syracuse and UC Riverside
Please tell me which ones would be my safety, match, and reach. Thank You

Stanford: Out of Reach
UCLA/USC/NYU/UCSD: Reach
UCI/Purdue/Syracuse: Match
UCR: :Low match

@TomSrOfBoston‌ Well I don’t think Stanford is necessarily out of reach. If the person is living below the poverty line, that could increase their chances.

just for clarification, would “low match” be closer to “safety”?

@SugarBubbleTea Where does the OP say that he is living below the poverty line?

@TomSrOfBoston‌ Well the OP didn’t, but this Chance Me isn’t thorough enough to completely remove them from Stanford contention. I mean, it would be a long shot, but maybe this student has overcome extraordinary hardship to get where they are. I think you should ask for a bit more info before going to that extreme. Maybe you are right. Maybe the OP is a millionaire and never took advantage of the plethora of opportunities presented to them. But maybe the OP is on the opposite end of that spectrum and has struggled a lot.

OP- What is your socio economic standing and what state are you in?

I’m in California, and I’d be considered at the bottom of the middle class due to the fact that I qualify for the financial support system that my school district offers me.

OP, if you are lower income, you should not be considering out if state public schools (Purdue) and expensive privates (Syracuse). You need to have some financial safeties too.

Find some 100% base-need schools that can be your financial safeties if you match well with their admission requirements?
http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/paying-for-college/articles/2013/09/18/colleges-that-claim-to-meet-full-financial-need-2014</a></p>

@ ^ , what that list is not indicating are schools with LOANS included in the award letter to meet 100% of students need. With LOANS out of the picture, less than 1% of those schools will make the list.

OP, unfortunately, NONE of those schools can be considered SAFETY with your stats. They are all reaches and some A VERY LONG SHOT.
Then again, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, so if you have the application fees, apply to them all, and just pray for A MIRACLE.
Best of luck to you.

UCR offers a Guaranteed Admission Program with a 3.9 UC (W) GPA and an SAT of 1600 or more. Application available end of June-July. See link:<a href=“New Students | Apply | Undergraduate Admissions | UC Riverside”>http://admissions.ucr.edu/WhyUCR/ourGuarantee</a>
This would give you one safety. UCR can also be generous with their financial aid.

Even if OP is below poverty line, there is no way to make up for the gap in GPA and test scores required for Stanford. It is still out of reach unless multiple legacy or other hooks. uwGPA at 3.55 is very low even for top 50 schools.
