Safety/Match/Reach (California)

Hello,

I was hoping that someone could arrange this list of schools for me into safeties, matches, and reaches.

Thanks!

List:
UC Los Angeles
UC San Diego
UC Irvine
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UC Riverside
CSU Long Beach
CSU Fullerton
San Diego State University
University of Southern California

GPA: 3.56 unweighted, 4.0 weighted, 3.6 UC/CSU GPA
SAT: 2040

Regular/Honors/AP courses.

I'm having a lot of trouble with matches and safeties...believe me, I know what the real reaches are. However, I'm not planning on leaving California and my parents would rather I not really apply to privates...putting me in a bad position. It just sucks because I really want to go to UCI; however, my GPA is a lot lower than their average (3.9), but my SAT is higher than their middle 50%.

Could you also suggest California schools that might be matches for me?

Thank you!

If you’re interested in a private school you should consider University of the Pacific.

I’m not really interested in privates.

Just curious, but why is USC on your list then?

Honestly, it’s only on my list because my parents want me to apply there.

Anyone else who will answer that I asked?

CSU Sonoma isn’t really up there as far as Academics, but it has a beautiful campus and with your grades you might just get a full ride.

If you are a California resident with decent EC’s. I am pretty sure UCI is a match  Just take your time on your essays and I think you will be fine! Class rank as well as your EC’s might be a good thing to add to your GPA for people to judge accurately though! Best of luck.

Thank you for replying!

I didn’t put EC’s up just because I’d like a dry opinion based on my numbers. However, my ec’s are okay…they’re focused on specific areas and I’ve been committed for awhile. I don’t have a bunch of different ones, just a few that I’m really into in areas that I really enjoy.

Also, my high school doesn’t rank…however, we are ranked within the top 5 high schools in California…so definitely not an easy one.
