My nephew is applying to Temple. While it seems like a good academic/social fit, I am concerned about the campus location. Could any current students give me their impressions on safety at Tempe.

Im not a current student, but i know MANY students and live about 15 mins away from campus…Temple is safe!!! North Philly gets a bad rap, but as long as one doesnt put themselves in a bad position you’ll be fine. Temple has a text alert system that both students and parents can sign up for. There are tons of police (both campus and city) around all the time. Basically, you will be fine if you have common sense and dont make yourself a target.

I visited the campus and had the feeling that as long as you stayed within the campus you were safe. If you venture off campus, just be smart and careful. I know a girl whose daughter is a sophomore there. She loves it. She even got an apartment off campus and has had no problems and doesn’t feel unsafe. I didn’t go to Temple–I went to LaSalle. Also in a bad area. But nothing ever happened to me, and I’m a small gal. During the day, no problem. If you go out at night, just be smart and go with a friend. City life is so fun, to me it was worth it.

By the way, my son loved Temple’s campus and its vibrancy. He’s pretty sure he’s attending next fall, although still waiting to hear from the other schools he’s applied to.
