im in lvoe with my safelt and I dont know what i wil do if I dont get in. I didnt want to apply ed because I wasnt sure, but if i get in I will definelty go there. However, i hear that sometimes safelties reject you becasue they realize that they are your safeties. Is this common? How can I aviod that happening to me?

It happens with some schools (though not all). Write a letter to the school expressing that it is your first choice.

it is a phenomena widely believed to occur at schools like WUSTL that don't want to be the "safety" for the ivy league applicants. No doubt it occurs at other levels, too.

However there are many things you can do to stop this, and they boil down to demonstrated interest. Harvard and Stanford don't care if you show interest (and in fact say this on their websites); when you get an admission letter from them they KNOW you'll give them serious thought. However for schools not as lofty in reputation you need to show them some love. If the only contact you've made with the school is to send in the app that's not a good sign. They want to see you're really thinking about them. This could mean the alumni interview (and expressing concrete reasons why you think the school is a fit for you), a campus visit if possible, contacting the admission office with a question or two, asking to meet with a student from your area home on Xmas vacation, etc.

Note, though, this only applies to schools with lattitude in admissions. If your safety is a state school that is largely formula driven then you don't need to demonstrate interest, and in fact they don't track it.
