Is anyone out there really loving there safety school? Or who really wants to go to there safety school? I mean, is it wrong to want to be at a school that is less prestigious?

unless your an absolute genious, i hope ur not saying that cornell is your safety school as your name implies.

lol, no, cornell is one of my dream schools which i have no chance of being accepted to. so if i don't get accepted into cornell, some of my safety schools just seem really nice.

I don't know if I can call it an absolute safety, but UNC is my safe match and where I'll probably end up, and I couldn't be happier about going there.

UF is my safety, wouldn't be so sad if I ended up there, but, I just don't like the largeness of the campus...sometimes you've got to pick and choose...

UMich is pretty much a safety for me because almost 100% of our students apply there, and pretty much all of them get in. Our school has a strong connection with Michigan. The general rule is 3.0 or above and you get in from our school. Certain programs like musical theater and engineering are a little more competitive.

Of course, Michigan is the best public school in the country. ;) (UCB and UVA people, I apologize for revealing the truth....) ;)

My D is going to her saftey school USD. She got great aid and scholarship, and even though it was the last school she visited she loved it when she spent the night. Her #1 school did not give her any money and was not worth 21,000 more per year then her saftey. She sat in on 3-4 classes and was impressed with the small class size, the involvement of students in discussions and the dept of study.

If you can fall in love with your safety, you'll have a stress-free and enjoyable college admissions process.
My D loved her safety, and would have picked it over several of the other more selective schools where she applied if she hadn't been accepted to her dream school. Lucky you, if you love your safety!

I can't speak to absolute safeties (my only guaranteed admits are Rutgers and TCNJ). But I absolutely love my two of my match schools (Smith and Reed) and am actually considering doing ED at Smith. I would be also be quite happy at my safeties (Earlham, Oberlin, and Skidmore). Wannagotocornell, what are your safeties?

I don't see anything wrong with having your safety school be a dream school. UMich was more of a match-safety for me than a true safety school, but I came very close to choosing it over a few much more selective schools...

Michigan was one of the least selective schools I applied to. I also applied to 4 Ivies, Duke, Chicago, Northwestern, Cal (out of state), Georgetown and UNC (out of state). But Michigan ended up being my first choice even though I got into all the schools I applied to save UNC. But Michigan is probably one of the few schools that can pull that off.

I really like both of my safeties, Cornell and UCSC. Before everyone starts ragging on me for saying Cornell's a safety, they accepted over 50 kids from my high school last year, which was about 62% of applicants, I'm in the top 5 out of 400 in my class, and my parents work there. While I'm not guaranteed to get in, which I know, I think I have a very good shot.

I love UCSC though. If I didn't get in anywhere else, I'd be completely happy going there.

do you go to school in Ithaca, b/c I know just like high schools in Philadelphia, these kids are given a HUGE edge in admissions in their respective areas (Cornell and UPenn).
