Safety School

My son saw BU and feels that this is his first choice for college. Although, he is a good student and has taken Advanced Placement/Honors classes, I think his grades are a little shy of the 3.7+ GPA that they say is necessary to get in. He has yet to take his ACT/SATs. He'll do that in June. He also liked UVM and Northeastern but they are quite competitive as well and like BU are very expensive. Can anybody suggest options for safety and more affordable schools? He is looking for schools in New England and Mid Atlantic States.
His perfect school would be mid-size or larger University in a college town in or near a city. The school would have to have majors in education, strong science and or business. He wants a school with a lot of school spirit. He would prefer a school that is a Division 1 athletic school.

Are you a Mass resident? Are you looking at Umass Amherst?

What about your instate flagship university?

My son currently attends Northeastern and while it is a good fit for him, I would not describe it as having “a lot of school spirit.” It’s more pre-professional in nature (due to the co-ops.)

Unless, of course, you’re into hockey!

I was also going to recommend UMASS Amherst.

How about Providence College? Not sure how good the business program is there though.
