Safety schools for computer science and economics?

OP, a couple of things:

1) U Michigan is not a safety – nobody has a 100% chance of admittance

2) Among the Claremont Colleges, Pomona is the highest ranked (top-5 LAC) and has the best rep overall. So if they offer both of the majors you are after, yes, you should definitely apply.

And even if you attended Mudd or CMC, you’d probably want to take most of your gen-eds at Pomona, since their all-around academics are the best among those five gifted colleges.

Pomona is to Williams/Amherst as Stanford is to HYP.

It’s more than likely that South Dakota School of Mines & Technology would be a safety for you. Yes, it’s a STEM university so you won’t find an economics program there, but there is a Department of Computer Science at SDSM&T. By the way, Microsoft recruiters do attend the SDSM&T Career Fair. Mines also is putting much effort into enrolling more female students. Mines attracts students from various states because of the excellent education and because of the very affordable tuition rates.

<a href=“Admissions Requirements”>http://www.sdsmt.edu/Admissions/Apply/Admissions-Requirements/</a> indicates that SD Mines is automatic admission for the OP. However, there do not appear to be automatic merit scholarships, so it is unlikely to be a safety for cost ($25,730 per year, according to <a href=“ECOA - Undergraduate”>http://www.sdsmt.edu/Admissions/Financial-Aid-and-Scholarships/ECOA/ECOA---Undergraduate/</a> ), although it won’t take much in the way of competitive merit scholarships to make it affordable.

SD Mines does not even have regular economics courses, although it has a few engineering economics courses.

Thanks for the replies! I’m going to check out Pomona (hope they get their net price calculator running again soon).

LakeWashington - SD Mines looks interesting, but I want a liberal arts education and will likely major or double-major in economics, so I don’t think it would be a good fit! Thanks, though!
