Safety Schools for Computer Science

Hi guys

Currently at this moment I have a 3.1 UW GPA and a 3.5 Weighted/UC GPA. I am from California. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions for safety schools as a Computer Science Major

**This is not the place to bash, I just need good safety schools to apply to.

Thanks in advanced

how did you do on the standardized tests? I’m interested in particular in your CR+M and ACT.

@jkeil911‌: OP keeps on posting for chances and has no SAT or ACT scores as of yet. OP has already been told to repost when they have all their Stats… doesn’t seem to register.

CSU Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Stanislaus, if you can afford them.

@ItsHydro: Since you do not have any ACT/SAT scores, you cannot calculate your Eligiblity index. The EI will determine which schools that would be safeties, matches and reaches for the Cal States. For UC’s and Privates in California, you still need test scores. Also you need to know how much your family can afford for college. If you cannot afford to attend, then the school is not a safety.
You should first look at your in-service area Cal State since you receive priority and will require a lower EI for an acceptance. Some exceptions include SDSU and Cal Poly SLO. Here is the in-service area Cal State listing:

Here is a list of impacted majors/campus. If the major is impacted, requirements for admission are higher than the regular EI threshold for these schools, so for a safety, look at non-impacted campuses such as San Marcos, Channel Islands, Monterey Bay etc…

Do you have a PSAT score??
BTW: I apologize for the above post. You keep posting and you really need to have test scores to get any meaningful answers. You should schedule to take either the SAT or ACT soon, so you can work on any problem areas. Do not wait until Senior year. Give yourself plenty of study time like during the summer.

i think riverside, csu east bay, san jose state (CHECK THIS OUT IF YOU ARE IN STATE. its a really good school for computer science, but i reckon ull need a 2000 sat or so to get in given your gpa). riverside and csu east bay are good safeties. basically look at the lower tier csu’s and UC’s, but try to go to schools in or near big cities cause thats where a lot of companies hire. maybe look out of state? south dakota school of mines is cheap but idk how good it is for comp sci.

There is a school called Harvard University in Massachusetts and you might want to look at it. They have a strong computer science program.

Standardized test scores will make a big difference in where you apply as a safety. Agree with @Gumbymom‌ that you should re-post when you have those scores.

@ItsHydro… Lately I am intrigued by New Mexico Tech and Stonybrook University (Long Island, NY) for computer science. Both are public colleges, so cost is not crazy for OOS, and both offer good financial aid (need based and merit.) Also Rose Hulman Institute (Indiana). It’s good you are planning ahead as many colleges have strict requirements for CS majors (SAT subject tests, # of years of math, hard sciences, etc.) Good luck.
