Safety Schools

I am an Asian American rising senior from a top ranking high school in Michigan. I think I am at the top 10% in my school. I’m curious about my chances of getting into the schools listed above. So, here are my stats:
ACT: 33 Composite, 33 English, 34 Math, 32 Reading, 32 Science
SAT: 2070 660 Reading, 750 Math, 650 Writing (I took it once, and I plan on not taking it again)
PSAT: 207 68 Reading, 70 Math, 69 Writing (I think this should be commended???)
Unweighted GPA: 3.76 (GPA kinda nosed dived after a shaky ending to junior year)
Classes (so far): AP Government, AP World History, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, Honors/Advanced level math for Algebra 2, Geometry, and PreCalculus with regular Algebra 1, Honors/Advanced level English for grades 10 and 11. College Prep(de facto Honors level) Physics and Chemistry.
AP Scores(in parentheses): AP Government(5), AP World History(5), AP Biology(3), AP Chemistry (3), AP Environmental Science(4)
Senior Year Schedule: AP Calculus
AP Statistics
AP English
AP Spanish
AP US History
IB 20th Century History SL
Internship
Recomendations: I have a teacher who is willing to write me a pretty good recomendation. Also, my counselor knows me well, so i’ll have her do it.
Extracurriculars: Philosophy Club
Robotics
Model UN
Quiz Bowl
Swim Club (seperae from school)
Rotary Club
Volunteer for school
Food Bank Volunteer
Essays: I have a pretty good backstory. I was born early at 27 weeks, stayed in the pediatric ICU for 2 months, and endured 5 operations before I turned one. At first, I struggled with life and beat that. Later, I had difficulty with my fine motor and gross motor development and overcame that problem. When I first went to school, I was diagnosed with ADHD and overcame that. During elementary school and the beginning of middle school, I struggled socially and academically before adjusting to the curriculum. Now, I am a successful student and individual, but I have a visual impairment. (This is gonna be the theme for one of my essays)

Aside from Michigan (possibly) and Michigan State (probably definately) being safety schools, can anyone give me at least 8 or 9 schools that i can look into as safety schools?

got any more options for safeties?

How much can your family afford?

they could afford up to $60,000 if we get financial aid

How much can they afford without financial aid?

$40k, but money isn’t a big issue. I just want a generic list of schools that fit my gpa, test scores, class loads. etc

I only know one high school around here with a Philosophy Club so I feel like I’ve got an idea where you go haha

Some Michigan schools you should look at would be Wayne State (some great merit aid scholarships, btw) and Kalamazoo College (very underrated in our state, arguably top 3 schools in it).

ok

Ok, I’ll consider them. any out of state safety schools? IAlso, what are some “low reach” schools-schools that won’t be big dreams?

Michigan is NOT a safety, even though you are in state. You should get into MSU with no problem, though. Depending on your major, U of MN would be a possible match and relatively inexpensive.

Without knowing what you’re looking for in a school or what you want to study, all I’ve got to go off of is proximity. That said, it sounds like you could afford Purdue OOS. College of Wooster might be another option in the area.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1562918-updated-list-of-schools-with-auto-admit-guaranteed-admission-criteria.html lists colleges with automatic admission criteria. Any which you qualify for and which are within your price limit can be safety candidates.

Of course, the list of very low cost after big merit scholarship schools linked in reply #1 can also be a list of safety candidates.

How are my chances of getting into Michigan?

Wisconsin
Ohio State
Toronto
Waterloo
McGill University
Queen’s University
Indiana University
Purdue
University of Iowa
University of Pittsburgh’
Penn State University
University of Delaware
University of Vermont

What do you want to study?

How about Miami U in OH? Closer…maybe BGSU? Ohio Northern would give you some $.

You can chance yourself a U Mich by googling the common data set and checking your stats against those of the admitted students in Section C.

As for more suggestions, we can’t be much help until you answer the questions that have been posted here: what do you plan to study and what are your selection criteria for schools? Otherwise, you just get people tossing random names at you, most of which will be irrelevant.

I am currently undecided. I’m looking for big, prestigious universities that are good across the board.

What does that mean? What was the shaky ending. What were your last semester grades?

UMich is not a safety for you. Junior year grades are typically strongly looked at. Yours were “shaky”.

I don’t know if the “shaky grades” might mean that MSU isn’t a safety either. it may now be a match. Not sure.

It appears that you’re premed. Is that correct?

Your goal should be to go to a safety, low match school where you’ll be a top student and shine.
