I generally don't see transfer applicants choosing to apply to safety schools, presumably because the school you're already attending could serve as your safety school -- if you don't get in anywhere, you can keep going there!

But that's for people applying from four-year schools or applying for a seat in the sophomore class. I will be (it is to be hoped) receiving my associate's degree at the end of next semester, and I'm really nervous about not getting in anywhere, partly because I am having a lot of trouble deciding on safety schools. The different rates for transfer acceptance compared to freshman acceptance are making it harder for me to choose which schools I can safely assume will accept me.

What are your stats, and are you applying to a safety or just keeping the school you are currently attending as your backup?

And completely off the topic of my entire post, but is everyone else whose applications will be competing with mine like the overachieving wunderkinder of CC? If so, I may just drop out of the game right now and become a mime or something.

I'm not sure how many safeties you plan on applying to, but I'd assume that if you have a GPA of 3.4 (or higher), coupled with a transfer rate of over 50%, acceptance is likely. If you're applying to two or three such schools, I'd say you're almost guaranteed admission, at least at one. If you still feel worried (and I wouldn't blame you), you can always pick a school with a very high transfer rate to solidify your transition.

Perhaps you can tell us what schools you're interested in. We'll try and give you the best advice we can. :)

So is this a stats thread again lol...I hope not. But just for the record, if it'll help you out, I'm applying to 8 schools, of which UT-Austin is my safety. I am at a CC with a 4.0 and 34 ACT...those are pretty much the only relevant stats for a state school anyways, so I won't bother to put the rest of my info.

UT has a 36% transfer rate, but I still consider it my safety as I have consistently seen the quality of applicants admitted from my CC. Since you are at a CC, you should tell us what state you're in, as well as your basic stats, and I can give you an idea of what safety to pick.

No...at least I don't think so. But naturally, if you are applying to more prestigious, competitive universities, what you see here is likely to be very close to the norm.

Well, I didn't want to start one of those 2400/4.0/HARVARD (accepted) YALE (accepted) PRINCETON (rejected, but they will keep the check i send them) threads, I think we have enough of those.

I'm in New Jersey, and I'm not applying to Rutgers, which I guess would be a natural choice for a safety. Plus, when I applied to schools for freshman admission, I let my parents choose all the schools I applied to. They were a little too optimistic and I ended up with a nice collection of rejections, so I'm very nervous about overestimating my chances. My concentration is math, and I'm going to have a 3.5-3.6 after this semester and I have a 1560/1600 SAT (790 writing, 710 IIC, 730 chemistry). I think my HS GPA was...a 3.2? 3.1, possibly...I got my diploma and pretty much never looked back, but I figured it wasn't a huge deal since I'm applying for junior admission.
