Safety Schools

snapdragonfly…every case is different. If a kid is uncertain of BA or BFA, and applies to a bunch of each, an audition based BA is not a necessity.

I was saying that for a kid who primarily wants a BFA and has a list of almost all BFAs and then one or two non-audition BA backups (one or more of which are a safety school academically), they may want something in between, and therefore an audition based BA has some artistic selectivity but often easier odds than most BFA degree programs and so it might be a consideration.

But ideally the BFA list is balanced in terms of artistic and academic odds…some BFAs are not as competitive as some others. A BA by audition school is just another option of often better odds than the highly competitive BFA programs, that’s all. And many of these offer substantial credits in MT.

If your D is undecided between BFA or BA and is somewhat leaning toward a BA, she doesn’t necessarily need an audition-based BA program on the list. There are not that many BA programs in MT in the first place, but there are some. Just another option, that’s all.

By the way, as far as down south…there is a BA in MT by audition at University of Alabama. That would not be a sure bet safety due to the audition, but definitely easier odds than BFA in MT programs.

Thank you, soozievt!
