safety??

I might be arriving in San Francisco's airport at 9pm at night. Are the public transports still available at that time? Most importantly, is it safe to travel at that time?

When I looked at your thread title, what immediately jumped to my mind was the idea of a safety school.

I am so warped by the college admissions process

But talking about real safety, I heard Berkeley's crime rate's quite bad? How bad is it really?

JP, I thought the exact same thing. "wugh? Cal as safety???"

But, back to your point, Berkeley/Bay Area is still safe sure-haven't you watched the Pursuit of Happyness-Will Smith and his son spent a whole night locked in a restroom-I'm sure you'll be fine :D

Hahaha but that's a movie! And no I haven't watched it...

From our computer science 70 discussion:

If you live in an apartment in Berkeley, on any given night there is a 25% chance of a burglary in your apartment.

......Sorry, I'm not serious. =) The hottest safety topic is bicycle theft, and I know several friends who have lost their bikes. However, the probability of losing a bike is not the same for everyone - you won't lose your bike if you take good care of it. Lock all quick-release parts of your bike to a bike ramp. Don't leave it outside overnight, and only park in well-traveled areas.

Lol I have heard worse, like rape... 'Cos there are a lot of homeless people and all.. Haha so seriously it's all just talk???

Just schedule the Bayporter shuttle service to pick you up and deliver you to your door if you are nervous about using public transportation. If you are a young woman who will be bogged down by a lot of luggage, perhaps it would be safer to take a shuttle rather than roll your suitcase and totebag home from the BART station. Having said that, if you take BART, you will probably be fine. As to the homeless people raping college coeds, that is not an issue as far as I know. I'm going with bike theft as the top crime, with robbery in second place. There was a rash of robberies last year but, seriously, my son has never known anyone affected by crime up there unless it was a stolen bike. That is just from my observations and reading the newspapers and is not from any stats I have verified.
