<p>That's actually not that bad. I remember hearing some speaker say that, aside from murder/manslaughter charges, the more reported offenses (within reason) the safer the campus. Burglary might very well include bike theft which happens often enough if you don't lock your bike. If you lock the doors to your car and close the windows you probably don't have to worry about motor vehicle theft. </p>
<p>Sexual assault is actually fairly common on college campuses. I recall some statistic that around 1/10 women suffer an assault or attempted assault while in college. (I could be wrong... even if it's 1/20, you'd expect over a hundred women to report an assault)
Stats on sexual assault at Stanford according to Vaden Health Center:
120 students between 1995 to 2001 sought services for a sexual assault
-91% were Stanford students
-84% committed by someone known to the student reporting the assault
-57% involved drugs or alcohol
-33% used or threatened force </p>
<p>My point is that Stanford is no less safe than any other campus. It's probably actually a lot more safe than most. You still should use common sense and lock your doors, close windows when you aren't in the room, etc.</p>
