<p>The Stanford campus is very safe as evidenced by the almost nonexistent robbery and aggravated assault numbers. Sexual assaults are common at every college, and like the stats show, 84% of them are caused by someone you know, the majority involves drugs or alcohol, and only 58% of them were actual rapes. Technically, rape occurs when one or both parties are drunk and unable to give consent to sex, which occurs far more often than the "jumping out of a dark alley" rape that many people imagine sexual assault to be. Burglary and motor vehicle theft often occur when students carelessly leave their dorm rooms and cars unlocked. I've seen countless bikes lying around that aren't even locked! I feel that the Stanford campus is one of the safest around. Women feel safe walking around at all hours of the night. A little common sense can go a long way.</p>
