Just been accepted into SAIC 2016. also applied to RISD. The curriculum looks solid and interesting at saic, I just want to know about student life? Do you make friends? Do most live in college housing for their whole time there? Shall I go to RISD instead?
ANY help. x

I’ve been accepted to SAIC as well and have also applied to RISD. Right now those are my top two but I’m waiting for RISD.

I live near Chicago and I think that there are many more things to do in downtown Chicago rather than in Providence which might be a big influence on my decision too.

I think that SAIC is very flexible and has a larger range of courses to take but it is quite self driven so you would have to decide which classes would be best by yourself. RISD is very strict with their majors which leaves little room for experimentation if you’re not sure which direction you want to head in the future.

From other reviews I’ve read RISD definitely has a tougher foundation year which limits time for other activities (like sleeping) but I’ve also heard that you would make many friends there.

Although I haven’t visited either one of them yet (waiting for spring break), I have heard that SAIC has really nice dorms. I would think that most students do live in college housing for their whole time due to the expenses of the city but it is always possible to get your own apartment.

artyboii I would be curious as to which school you decide is best for you, so you should keep us updated! If anyone else can offer any insight, I would also appreciate it!

Hey, I just visited both of those schools, their my two top choices and I’m finding it really hard to make a decision. SAIC dorms are so amazing, the city is great, there are amazing ressources and I feel like I would be happy there but on the other hand, RISD is RISD, its name speaks for itself but I’m worried about the workload :S Are both of you still debating as to where to go? Let me know, it would be nice to hear from people in the same position :)

Hello everyone, this might be a little off topic. I`m having difficult time trying to decide whether I should attend SVA or SAIC. I’m going for fine arts, but I also would like to experiment another major such as illustration. I know, they are totally different majors, but I want to try both to see which one I enjoy the most. But, I just don’t know which school I have to choose. I heard both are great schools, and I know that-maybe this is why it’s so hard to decide…Anyway, I’m running out of time because I have to pay deposit by May 1st, and I don’t want to be late on mailing out required forms that I would need to send to the school. Plus, I’m an international student so I have additional work to do before the deadline.
Also, I decided to go visit SVA and SAIC on accepted students day, so hopefully I will know the decision.
*I live near NY and my parents wish I didn’t go too far. I know how they feel and I really love my parents. Even I wish I didn’t go far from them; but I have more feelings towards SAIC. I just feel that I can explore as an artists, learn new things through new experiences, and meet a lot of diverse people. Somehow, SVA is not in my interest…still,I can’t say I’m not going there.

If anyone has suggestions/comments about what my decision, please let me know as soon as you read this post. Thank you!

Time is ticking…

SAIC, i swear is the right choice.
