I am looking at a number of art schools, and even one libral arts (bard college) but SFAI,SAIC, and SMFA seemed like the best fits and I was just wondering if anyone had any helpful information that would make one better than another. I am really interested in all types of art, mostly photography, but recently installations and ceramics..

If rankings have any bearing to you, SAIC is very strong in pure fine art such as painting and in photography. SAIC also has some decent applied art programs to such as graphic design.

SMFA is strongest in pure fine art but isn't as well ranked as SAIC. Athough you can major in some applied art majors at SMFA, it really isn't known for this. However, SMFA does have one interesting thing going for it: you graduate with a Tufts degree and take all liberal arts at Tufts. However, if you don't get separately admitted to Tufts, you can't live on the Tufts campus. Commuting to SMFA from Tufts and vice versa takes about 45 munites by car or bus.

My daughter is in the combined degree program at Tufts/SMFA. She had to apply and be accepted at each school separately. My daughter has liked her courses at the SMFA so far. She hasn't taken any ceramics or photography courses.

i've been doing analog photo, but my stubbornness will soon yield as the whole industry is becoming more and more digital..

I guess i like the freedom SMFA gives you, but I'm just not sure how well I would do with so much freedom, you know? how has your daughter found juggling a BFA and a BA, Jacksonmom? Does she find that the students there are focused? I too, am applying to Tufts, just to keep that joint-degree open as an option..

hmm.. 85% acceptance rate doesn't sound too good.. how are the faculty, do you know, m&sdad? do you know anyone who goes there?
