how are middle market investment banking firms in comparison to the larger ones? What are the hours like and how much difference is there in compensation?

Probably at the lower end if it exceeds 6 figures at all. This coming year won’t be anything like past years.
My S worked in IB for 3 1/2 years.

I understand what you mean by this… but banking and S&T are not that much alike. It’s not common that people enjoy and thrive in both situations.

Smaller deals = smaller deal fees = smaller bonuses = smaller comp. Not a significant difference in hours. Banking is banking.

You don’t have to do it forever. Plenty of people who find they don’t like the hours and lifestyle of IB move to the buyside in some capacity and still have a financially rewarding career. From both my UG class and MBA class, I know many more people who fit this profile (including myself) than people who stay in IB for 10+ years.

just got my SA offer for BoA/ML commodity trading
60k prorated over 10 weeks
1k sign on

You’re welcome. Turned my BoA-Merrill S&T offer down awhile ago.

Are you a favor hire or did you apply OCR and get alternate? Either way, looks like Ms. Murphy shortchanged you – it’s supposed to be 60k prorata plus 2k sign on.

Congrats Bearcats, well done! You’re on your way. Work like a dog and you’re set.

Ok, I was one of those that used to sneak out between 8-9. I knew the underground passage around Ave of Americas very well. I could get to and from work without a coat in the winter - kiss of death to run into a MD in an elevator wearing a coat(half a day?). Despite lack of hours I worked, I was one of the favorite associates(I was told people often asked me to be on their team). It was long time ago, but I had a lot of fun - definitely work hard and play hard. I have since retired into the comfortable IT world(did the system just go down, what will happen to our trades?). My older daughter is looking to get into this business soon. I hope she will get as much out of it as I did, maybe she’ll be good at sneaking out too.

I applied through OCR. lol and thanks. Btw it wasn’t Ms. Murphy.

thanks Hmom. that’s the plan.
