Did anyone apply EA to the South Asian Languages and Cultures program?

since you don't declare on the app.

will probably minor in it...if possible.

Any particular language or culture you are looking at. I probably will take Hindi and study abroad in India for a few months.

What language concentration would you like? I want to concentrate on Sanskrit, but also do Bengali and Hindi.

You beat me to the question. I'd like to study in India also. They teach you Marathi for that program. I would also like to do a little Pali if I can fit it in, just to be able to read the Buddhist texts.

Chicago gives us too many options...and with only 4 years, it's so hard to take everything you want.

Sanskrit...man, I took that when I was in India. Loved it to hell. I loved writing it and reading it. I forgot most of Hindi and Sanskrit due to lack of practice for 5 years. I need to learn Hindi again if I am to become the next great PM of India:)

Marathi...never learnt it. Few friends of mine are from Kerala though. When I go to India this summer, I am visiting Kerala and staying there by myself, for a month or so...got to enjoy life before "hell freezes over".

Ha. Yeah, it's so hard. They offer something like thirteen Indian languages. It's just ridiculous. I like Sanskrit very much. My dream is actually to write an epic set of operas on the Mahabharata and Ramayana. I'm learning Hindi, but my accent is absolutely terrible.

wow..."operas on the Mahabharata and Ramayana." Some pretty heavy stuff. We shall have fresh breath of life into the South Asian Student Association with you on aboard. haha...If I get deferred or rejected, I am gonna hate it to the infinity.....my god, just the taught kills me....shudders

Oh don't worry about being deferred or rejected, I already came to the conclusion that I am going to get a very very small envelope this week. If I do get in, I won't be in the South Asian Student Association, however: The simple reason being that I am quite caucasian.

ah, an interesting scenario. A caucasian interested in India:;. if you are so passionate about India, I don't think it really matters. Just come to expand on your Hindi vocab. and to pick up on the accent. If nothing else, we can always go to Devon street to munch on some fine indian cusine....ah, my mouth is already watering thinking about masala dosas, biriyanys, tanduri chicken.....Must stop typing...must go eat...must stop typing...must go eat...

I just ate chicken makhani with a lassi actually. Kheer as well. Very good.

Are you from Chicago? How is the Indian food scene there? I'm from New York, so I've had some pretty good food, especially Dawat.

not from chicago, i am afraid. But, the devine street restaurents are out of this world. Few of my relatives just adore that street, and often call it their second home or "home away from home" something like that....
