Sallie Mae Loans

I was wondering if anyone knew how the Sallie Mae loans worked. More specifically, how do they do loan imbursement? I signed up for a loan effective in Fall 07 until Winter 07, does that mean I should ask for funds for ONLY Fall quarter and not the rest of the year? Do I take out more loans every quarter?

What type of loan? Each type is handled differently and will also depend upon how the school has certified the student loan.

How the loan is "disbursed" is determied by the school. Some schools request the money to be sent once at the beginning of each quarter. Others like to receive the money up-front in one lump sum.

Depending on the type of loan, disbursements can be made automatically to the school when they request. For example, Federal Stafford loans go directly to the school, whereas private loans (like Sallie Mae Signature loans) can go directly the the borrower. The borrower must then pay the school according to the school's disbursement schedule...which they will usually send a bill for.
