Salve Regina Unversity

Need help on sending my son to Salve Regina University. Just not sure if overall fit is good. Will be a long way from home and not sure if college empties on weekends for such a small school. Any advice would help ?

I don’t have any advice for you. A few kids from our area attend each year. But in our area kids don’t talk about their colleges/universities. So it’s not unusual that parents don’t get reports on Salve Regina.

Has your son visited Salve? If not, I would say that is something to consider especially since you live so far away. Our daughter was accepted at two schools across the country. We INSISTED she do an accepted student overnight at each school, attend some classes and get at least a little feel for both schools. It was good that she did because he absolutely HATED one of the schools when spent the night…and loved the other.

Our daughter’s safety school was Salve. We live somewhat close to that school. I know three female grads of Salve and they were both happy there. We know one male student who only stayed a year…he didn’t find the “sports scene” to be as exciting as he wanted in college. There is a much higher %age of women at Salve than men.

I would be very surprised if Salve emptied out on weekends. Newport is a very fun town with lots to do. Many Salve kids work in the local restaurants, etc.

Be sure he visits. Very few men attend Salve. Has an all girl “finishing school” feel. Don’t think many guys would be happy there.

thanks for the insights on salve. We did visit and spent about 2 hours with a coach. School was not in session so did not get the student experience. Beautiful campus but of course that does not make a good fit. Thaks for the feedback.

I second that…I don’t know why, but I’ve always heard more negative things. I did talk to one young woman who was a physical therapist now and she liked it but said it wasn’t as rigorous as she would have liked and some students do leave on weekends being close to campus.
