Well it?s that time when acceptance letters start coming in and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the MT program at Sam Houston and how it measures up to some other MT programs? I have heard mixed review on the school and any input would be appreciated!

Thanks everyone!

Sam Houston is a pretty good school for MT, but's not for everyone. There are some good things about the program: Small Classes, lots of performance opportunities (lots Freshman get cast in shows there first year), good dance training, lots of studio time, and welcoming students. But there are some not so good things: Location (the school is in the middle of nowhere), No Senior Showcase, and they frown upon performing outside of the school (even for juniors and seniors). Sam has a good program, but it's certainly not the best. And like I said before LOCATION. There's really not much to do around the city and if you're not a "small town" kind of person it could get really dull really fast.

Hope this helps with your decision.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! So do you know of the acting at Sam Houston? I do want to study musical theatre but think of myself more of an actor than anything else.

I know what you mean by the middle of nowhere! I went out to the school for auditions. I guess the hot place to hang out is at the Chilies restaurant.

I would think the quality of a program and what it offerse matter a lot more than where it is. The important thing is what goes on inside of the buildings, and not where they are.

I completely agree!!! It’s all about the program! It is however nice when you are in a school that is located in a more theater art city! Community theatres, other dance studio, off-campus internships and other opportunities! I am very blessed to have many choices this year and can be more selective and if Sam Houston's program is no better than a program in NY, Chicago, LA, Dallas/Fort worth then I would prefer to go to a more art/theatre city!

My d just got accepted to SHSU BFA Dance program. Also to KU and UT BFA programs. Any feedback on these programs. SHSU is very reasonably priced although my D wants to go to KU. She likes small collges although KU is rather big? Don’t think she will get much ballet there which is discouraging.

Sam Houston has a New York Showcase.

katie rose clarke went there! (played clara in light in the piazza)
