would/did/will you?

Yep..just modified it a bit for the different questions. I think it's pretty much standard nowadays. I don't think anyone writes completely different essays.

no one really finds out or cares right?
I sound really lazy xd

If the topic fits, why not? But be warned against stretching an essay too much. If they use the same question or there's a "Topic of choice" option, then go for it.

thanks

"But be warned against stretching an essay too much"?

why do they find out?

No... By stretching, I meant making the same essay finish different topics. Like changing a few words to make it work for a different idea. It CAN work, but a lot of time, it is obvious to an experienced reader that the essay isn't really for that. That will hurt your chances.

yeah, i have to admit i def. stretched. VERY FAR, esp. for wharton. but seriously i only used two main essays for all my apps...

so it's pretty much acceptable if you submit the same essay for colleges using commonapp, let's say?

^ Yes, the Common App is supposed to make things easier for you.

I had a single Common App essay. I reused essays on the supplements, with minor modifications. Except for the "why do you want to go to _____" essays, since I was typically more specific on those. If you really want to get in, don't give them some generic crap answer for that.

The colleges expect that you will use similar essays-- one of the characteristics of the Common Application. As long as you have written it yourself (you'd be surprised...) it's still your work. Just be VERY CAREFUL not to write "I really want to go to College ABC," when you are writing the application for College XYZ. It actually happened to a student at our school. I am sure Colleges know that is bound to happen, but it doesn't make the Ad Com happy. That student, by the way, was not accepted to the "mistake" school...

^^lol...same thing happened to my friend.

I'll be using the same essays

Why do you want to be lazy now with essays and possibly miss out on a life changing college?

To me, not worth it. Work on it over summer if you really care.
