Same "feel" as Hamilton

We visited Hamilton, Colgate, Syracuse and URochester. I thought that Colgate and Hamilton would be very similiar, but they they definitely are not. Colgate in campus atmosphere really reminded me of Trinity (CT), whereas Hamilton reminded me of a smaller Brown. The atmosphere was very laid back. The students and adminstration were very friendly and approachable. At Colgate I just got the feeling that we were being sized up before anyone would talk to us. It didn’t help that our guide was really into the greek system, stating that they are supposed to be exclusive that’s what make them attractive. Then intimated that only losers don’t get accepted to any frats/sorieties. My son is pretty lukewarm on the greek system, but doesn’t begrudge a person’s reasons for being into it, but I thought that our guide’s comments were pretty mean spirited.

HObart William Smith, Lake Forest, Allegheny, Westminister ¶, Wash & Jeff, Wash Coll in MD, McDaniel, Dickinson, Gettysburg, Colby, St Michael’s, St Alban, Hartwick, Marian, F&M, Juniata, Susquehanna, St Lawrence are all some schools to visit.

Definitely recommend St Lawrence also. Along with Gettysburg.
I toured at both of those and Hamilton and they all have the same kinda preppyish feel.
All similar looking campuses

Mapleleaf, I hope you filled out a tour evaluation form after your tour. Colgate admissions would be horrified to hear that a tour guide was making such statements. The frats (I can’t speak to the sororities) are hardly exclusive - any one who rushes is guaranteed a bid. And the Colgate campus is generally a very friendly place.

Second Kenyon and Union. Conn College also a good suggestion.

And don’t give up on Hamilton. Under 30% is not great, but SOMEBODY gets in.

Both my kids were accepted at schools under 30%, one under 20%. Keep the faith.

My D looked at almost all of the NE schools mentioned above, and ended up applying to many of them as well. Her favorites, in terms of “feel” were Hamilton, Colby, Kenyon and Dickinson. She also liked Skidmore and Conn College. She is at Dickinson today, and extremely happy, even though not was not her first choice school.

Denison is another option. And if finances are an issue, Denison is excellent re: merit aid.

We’ll be taking a college tour this summer out to IA. We’ll be looking at Denison along the way.

I was going to say Saint Lawrence also…which is my alma mater. You might also want to look at Saint Bonaventure.
