So I've been on "received all materials" since the 25th of NOVEMBER-
I have a 31 ACT 3.84, straight A's 7th semester, awesome EC's/recs/essays...UW was supposed to be a safety for me, but I've seen no change in 2 1/2 months, should I be worried...I've called and they give me the same crap about how it's random blah blah blah

Are you IS or OOS?

bangs head against wall

AAAAAHHHH

My daughter is in the same boat. I think the answer they say about it being ‘random’, although possibly true, is BS. Seriously if you have 25000+ applicants and a priority deadline of 12/1. Then those applications submitted before priority deadline should be reviewed first and a decision made. Then after all priority decisions made, review rest of applicants. Seems straight forward to me. Their system needs some fine tuning.

It’s not random, I’m almost absolutely sure.

People with extremely high stats are singled out and admitted early very soon after they apply. Sadly, most of them won’t even attend UW as its just a safety.

Well, that’s how the world works…

You never know. This year is unlike any other year in recent history. Given the economic uncertainty, not many families will want to take the risk and send kids to elite institutes when they have the option to send them to in-state public schools for a lot less.

[Will Higher Education Be the Next Bubble to Burst?](http://www.financialaidnews.com/news/will-higher-education-be-the-next-bubble-to-burst/) is an interesting article I came across a few months ago.

same boat as you…3.3 gpa and 1980 SAT…solid ECs…solid essays…Yet, I hear of my friends with lesser stats get in faster than me when they applied a little while ago while i applied early novemnber and have been on recieved materials since 11/25…frustrating

recieved status since 10/22 - gpa 3.55 - act29 - tons of AP classes. REALLY frustrated:-(

try check now…i was in the same status until 2day unofficial transcript loaded!!!
also had similar stats…same gpa n SAT :P

Just got the “reviewed” with transcript uploaded.

Hopefully I got in, I’d love to go to UW but I’m mainly happy I’ll have the opportunity to better plan for and take care of the financial side of things now.

My S applied on Dec 6th. His status is still at “Awaiting initial review.” Effing frustrating because, theoretically, we don’t even know if UW would look at it one cloudy morning and declare that the app is incomplete. Why don’t the morons at least take a few minutes to perform an initial review to at least ensure that everything is in place. A student working at a $12/hr wage can perform an initial review of several apps per hour.

All the other colleges S has applied to, public and private, have informed us within about a week of receiving the application that the app was complete. UW is a large university with a budget commensurate with its size, so “we receive many applications” is not an excuse.

rational2, I can sense your frustration (a slight understatement), and I know a lot of my fellow senior friends are also very annoyed at the UW Admissions Office. What some of my friends did was to call into the office and ask about their application. Almost all of them had a status change from initial review to received all materials within a day. Some of them got in within two weeks of the status change.

Also, a few of my classmates were missing their test scores, and they were notified promptly. The problem was some mix up with the test center, etc. They figured it out and their online status lists all their test scores. However, their statuses are STILL awaiting initial review as of yesterday, however. They applied before the priority deadline.

I recommend calling the office asap just to make sure they have everything. It may also trigger them to check out the application, and perhaps move along your S’s application process along more quickly. Hope it helps, and good luck!

Thanks BubbleTea. S did call UW admissions early this week and it went to a recorded message without giving him a choice to speak to a human. He has also sent a note using the contact page on the admissions page. I’ll ask him to try a different number.

There are some people with low stats that didn’t apply before priority date and still got in.

Do you think it has anything to do with essays? Maybe people with low stats who have gotten in wrote really good essays…?

I know essays are a factor, but I didn’t realize they would play THAT huge of a factor. Perhaps they have some really good ECs and I just don’t know about it.

I’m just really anxious to get the acceptance letter (assuming I get one).

It’s really the luck of the draw.

^ Idk stat wise UW is definitely a safety, my EC’s are really great, same with recs, and although I didn’t dedicate much time to my essays they are pretty good as well…really weird/annoying

Nah I mean I really think they put all the applications into a raffle chamber and pull one out everyday.

I have a feeling I’m gonna end up getting rejected, which is kinda unbelievable considering im in the top 25% of all their stats with great other stuff
