Sammy Milk Scholarship 2011

Anyone hear from them today? First round qualifiers should be announced.

I did not hear anything yet…But I am hoping to.

How will they announce?

Previous posts have indicated winners receive an email. They have that info from the online application process.

I haven’t heard anything yet, either. Do they send an email to let you know if you’re not a semifinalist, too, or do they just send emails to semifinalists and not respond to anyone else?

I was wondering the same thing. I haven’t heard anything. Also, I didn’t ever receive a confirmation email even though I submitted quite a few times. I hope my application went through.

Here’s a copy of the email we got when DD submitted on March 1st:

Thank you for applying for the 2011 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Scholarship Award! We now have your application on file.
Looks like I didn’t make it to semifinalist :(. I’m confused though because I am a state champion runner, have been number 1 varsity track and xc all four years, and I ran an undefeated season last year. I have been the captain of both teams, track and xc, for 2 years. I am going to an Ivy league school, have a 4.75 GPA and a strong history of community service. I know it’s competitive, but I know a girl who made it. She wasn’t even close to state champion, had much lower grades than me, and did an equal amount of community service. Sorry if I sound rude, but what gives? I really thought I had a shot

True man…who knows maybe the gatorade national thing would do better for you! And Runner15 are you a female or male…I love running too  what are your PRs?

It is not always the best athletes that they select. A girl from our area won a couple of years ago. She was a swimmer, but not that competitive, never even a finalist at the regional level. But she was an excellent student and had a lot of focused community service. She was also an URM.

My daughter didn’t make it this year either. She is top 1% in her class, 3 time state qualifier for swimming, 3 sport high school athlete, team captain in two sports, 2 yrs each, recruited athlete in a club sport, past Key Club President, current Key Club Editor with lots of varied community service through Key Club. So, there must have been kids that were more what they were looking for, whatever that was.

Well, then I guess my DD didn’t make the cut we never heard anything after the submission email :frowning:
take care,
lisa

When were the winners notified and was it by email this week?

Son got the non-finalist email today.

My DD also got non-finalist email today
"Thank you for your recent application for the 2011 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) Scholarship Award.

This year we received more than 40,000 applications from outstanding teens just like you from around the country.

While we were impressed by your tremendous achievements, you have not been selected as a SAMMY semi-finalist this year.

We want to thank you for participating and wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.

Keep up the hard work as you head off to college and as always, remember to drink your milk!"

Congrats to all that advanced!

With 40,000 applicants, I suspect the first cut is an algorithm and might be weighted toward the specific leadership qualifications they identify on the application. Also since they have not incorporated any adjustment for weighted versus non-weighted GPAs, that may have hurt or helped students depending on their schools grading structure.

This is just like selective schools where many qualified applicants don’t make it. Too bad, since my son is a chocolate milk disciple and most importantly, I really wanted to go to Disneyworld courtesy of him before I start paying for this expensive education!

I didn’t get an email!

Has anyone heard about the winners yet? There was a delay in the announcement, but just curious about any further notifications. Thanks.

Has anyone heard who the winners are yet?

My D is still in it. She received an email saying that they needed more time to fully review each student, and there would be a delay. No specific day for results was given.

But has anyone heard since that announcement?
