I just got a booklet from them about it and I’m kinda interested. Can you guys give me some info about it though? Like are the classes really good, is there a lot to do in the city, how was the entire experience basically…
Lastly, there are sat prep classes, and by then, I’ll have already taken all the sat’s I wanted to. What will I do?

I called them and they said the application is due APRIL 1st.

I still don’t get why SAMS is better program, for some people it might be. But if I already did Calculus BC, why would I want SAMS and then some basic SAT Math? It’s not bad, but it’s not great at all, very basic stuff…

Thanks. Now I just have to assume you’re not saying that because it’s actually due March 1 and you want an advantage over CCers ;)

haha no trust me… i need the time too:) no joke.

Instead of arguing, can we get more people’s input on this?

We were arguing? I didn’t realize that.

Seriously, though, if you want information fast, you call SAMS. Not wait around on a forum. We’re trying to learn the same information, remember?

I called them just now, and according to the lady, the application isn’t due yet. So, I think I’ll still give it a shot.

^ That page says April 1st, what are you guys talking about? x_x

This.

10char

Wait, so that link states that the deadline is MARCH 1st, but elsewhere on the website, a date of APRIL 1st is denoted…

It is due April 1. Ignore the March 1 mention.

this happened to me last year, i was freaking out b/c i had received the SAMS pamphlet 4 days before it was due, so on Friday i ran around like crazy asking for letters or rec and getting the essentials done, i mailed it in on Mar 1 and then… i call to ask if my materials had arrived on time and they told me i still had a month to go oh well, it worked out since i got in… but the deadline IS Apr 1 so relax :)

Ahh okay–thanks!

Any idea how prestigious SAMS is? As a sophomore, there aren’t many very competitive summer camps that will help very much, but SAMS seemed the most “advanced” out of the ones I was able to find. I want to go into engineering (electrical), and there are very few of those programs. The ones that do exist are mostly just deal with statics or kinematics in physics and make you build a bridge or something of that ilk.

(cough If any advanced and/or useful and/or prestigious camps that have to do with engineering are available, anyone care to tell me? thanks in advance haha)

It’s semi-prestigious. It’s free, so it’s not one of those you-pay-you-get-in types.

Clark Scholars, MITES, etc. are “prestigious” and offer engineering options, but it’s too late to apply now. SAMS is structured weird, though (why on earth will I be taking precalc and calc at the same time? I already know that stuff, anyway.)

I agree… I’ve taken Precalc already and I’m in Calc right now. I feel like the math portion of SAMS will be wasted but I’m mainly going for physics and SAT Prep anyways so I guess it’s okay.

I’ve heard that you can just take what math you place into? I’m a junior taking Honors Precalculus, and I’d appreciate the caclulus classes. Though I really hope I get into SSP (first choice).

as rising juniors you don’t take precalc or calc, you take a sort of advanced trig/algebra thing where you apply the math to everyday problems… you do a powerpoint presentation EVERY week and you have to be pretty specific and VERY meticulous … as a Sr you take a diagnostics test and depending on where you fall you take either precalc or Calc… i am in calculus right now but am still i am looking forward to taking Calc at SAMS b/c it’ll look nice on my transcript saying i took the course and got CARNEGIE MELLON credit for it.

Ugh, so is SAMS basically (one of?) the best programs rising juniors can take?

I’ve already taken the SAT and am satisfied with my score, am taking precalc right now, and am planning on skipping to BC next year, so all of this actually seems somewhat low-level. Honors physics is meh but I’m afraid I’ll just be reviewing old material.

Seriously, are there no prestigious/advanced programs other than mathematics ones (in which you just test in or just have to be very proficient) that are available for rising juniors?

:(

^ Zekk17, if you deem that you’re good too smart for SAMS why even bother apply? It seems like you already have finished all the materials that’s going to be covered in the program. This forum is only for SAMS so if you have any other questions regarding more prestigious summer programs, don’t comment on this thread. thanks.

GUUUYS
i’m so confused about the application process. i’m freaking out. pressed for time.
in what format do they want your SAT scores? I’m taking mine tomorrow (March 12) and I won’t get results until March 31.
Applications are due April 1 right? I plan to postmark and send before then.
But if they want the SAT score in paper format, then that would be a problem…
