San Diego State Nursing

My D was just accepted to CSUF, Nursing Program. Very surprise to hear so early but grateful. Does SDSU do the same as far as notification?

For the past few years, Nursing acceptances have been the last to be posted, so if SDSU follows the same pattern, the decisions will probably be out in Mid-February through March.

Hi…thanks for the response. Had sent you a private message as well.

Does anyone know the average EI for Pre Nursing?

@BSNhopeful the average is a 4.04 GPA and 1291 SAT, so the EI would be 4,523

I have collected EI for many majors at SDSU for the last few years. There are no averages for Nursing. For many local SD applicants, I have seen acceptances as low as 4300 EI. For out of area applicants, I have seen 4400+ but I have also seen several EI’s in the 4700 range that were waitlisted or denied. This is purely based on posted stats on the decision threads from the last 2 years.

@Gumbymom yeah it’s definitely like a lottery but i got that from their website

@liquidsugar: Having target values is definitely helpful in determining if you have a decent chance, but I agree with such a low acceptance rate, it is definitely a lottery…

With such a wide range of EI scores, what else do they look at?

I live in San Diego, and I disagree about the lottery. I have spoken with the Admission Director at SDSU and with the Nursing Dept. There is a clear ranking methodology. The focus on these forums has been EI, but an also important criteria is strength of college preparatory courses. Also grades in the math and science classes cannot be below a B. This may explain why some with a higher EI were denied while lower EI were admitted.

“Nursing – Admission to the School of Nursing is very competitive. Applicants will be ranked for admission by their college preparatory courses, GPA and SAT critical reading and/or redesigned SAT evidence-based reading and writing or ACT English and mathematics. Applicants must also have earned a B or higher grade in high school intermediate algebra, biology and chemistry with lab courses. If AP or IB level courses were taken in these areas, applicants must have earned a B or better grade in the course”

Here is additional proof that SDSU Nursing Admissions are not based on a lottery.

“Admission to the School of Nursing is competitive. Students with the top GPAs and test scores
will be ranked for admission by the SDSU Office of Admissions. Students will be admitted
according to rank and the number of positions available.”

@lastofthree SDSU Nursing acceptances were released around 6pm yesterday 2/24/17.

Yes, mentioned my daughter’s acceptance on the thread.

Is SDSU her first choice? Or is she waiting for UCLA? It looks like the same group of us applying to all the CA direct entry nursing programs.

She’s applied to UCI, UCLA and USF, all direct. Waiting to see the outcome before she commits. I’m happy she got accepted to SDSU since her brother is there as well. I think its going to be a high reach for the last three. Congrats by the way!

@davisgirl Did you apply to UCI and USF as well or only UCLA?

@davisgirl Did you find out about UCI?
My daughter got accepted but as undeclared. She still wants to see the campus. Hope you got into the program!

@lastofthree Still waiting on UCI for Nursing as of this morning!

@lastofthree Only applied to SDSU,CSUF,UCI and UCLA. Almost 100% sure going to SDSU. There will be a new Nursing living community this fall. We are going to Explore SDSU Open House tomorrow Mar 18.i am not that interested in UCI and UCLA is a reach. Will give my CSUF spot to someone on the wait list.

@davisgirl Daughter is deciding between USF (since its closer) and SDSU. So we will see. Don’t think UCLA will be an option since its a very high reach.
