Any idea what can be done here?

@Shamoo: All you can do is contact SJSU admissions to see if switching majors is possible. Seriously doubt it since admission decisions are out and on their website they caution applicants about selecting majors.

Choose Your Major Carefully
It is important to understand that though all majors are impacted, the admission threshold for each major varies, depending on the capacity of the major to take new students, and the number of students applying for that major in that term.

We encourage you to apply for the major in which you intend to earn a degree. Change of major is prohibited during the application and admission process. After you are admitted, change of major is never guaranteed and is by petition only. Your mandatory orientation, advising and registration will all be based on your choice of major.

In addition, we encourage you to look at the admission thresholds by major at SJSU for recent terms, and to apply to an alternative campus that offers your major.

You must enter an alternative major on your application to SJSU. Beginning with the fall 2017 admission cycle, we will consider the alternate major for those applicants who did not meet the impaction threshold to their first choice major. We will only admit to alternate majors if there is additional capacity for new student enrollment in that major.

Accepted!!

Kinesiology Major
Local Transfer
GPA: 3.58(going to be around a 3.7 once I finish this class I got a D for)

Most likely attending in the fall, but waiting on a couple more schools, for good measure. I was a fucking idiot in high school and this acceptance is the embodiment of how far I have come. Congratulations to everyone that got accepted, and to the people that did not, keep working hard. This isn’t the end of the world, and don’t let a rejection bring down your opinion of yourself. Learn from the rejection and I promise you that you will become a better man/woman because of it!

Thanks @Gumbymom! Will try that approach and see if i can get any far. In the reject it states I can appeal but cannot appeal for a change of Major. So I will have to write to the office of admissions with request to reconsider. I was wondering if Spartan Path way is a viable option to reapply.

@Gumbymom How do we find out the accepted major? My son’s says ‘Undergraduate’ and he got an email about being admitted to college of engineering. Will it be undeclared?

@Shamoo: I am not familiar with Spartan Pathway, sorry. All I know is what is posted on the website:

http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-7381.12652.html

@Sona2013: So I am assuming the email did not state the specific Engineering major? If the portal states “Undergraduate” and not a specific major, then it is probably “Undeclared”. Calling admissions to confirm would be the best approach.

Will san jose state university mention your major in offer?

SJSU told me I was admitted but didn’t mention my major. Does that mean that I got into my first major?

My daughter received a packet in the mail yesterday, and the cover letter does list the major under “Academic Plan”.

We got the packet yesterday and it mentioned the major under ‘Academic Plan’.
