***san jose state 2022 admissions thread***

@gabbyjohn1030 The EI is higher for those two majors because they’re very popular and very competitive. I mean, just look at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo as an example: overall acceptance rate last year was 32%, yet the Comp Sci acceptance rate was about 8-9%. It’s not “ridiculous,” just competitive. It’s annoying tho that the standards keep skyrocketing, but standards only skyrocket when competitiveness of applicants skyrockets, and popularity of major skyrockets.

@esther414 Congrats!

The school provides NO help in finding roommates. Get on Facebook, join the San Jose State Class of 2022 group, post a blurb about yourself, and start looking for possible matches. You should do this ASAP. I wrote up some more info here:

Since most people on this thread are from California, I was wondering if there was anything you could tell me about San Jose? How much of a culture shock would it be if I went to SJSU? I’m from Louisville, which is the big city in Kentucky, and I don’t really know what to expect.

@chocolatechip74 Lots of asians

So if we don’t meet the eligibility index, we’re pretty much denied?

@chanman00 Yes but if you’re local you get put into undecided as long as you meet A-G

@chocolatechip74 lots and lots and lots of asians. I’m from the area and honestly, it’s not bad.
Lots of taquerias and lots of food places surrounding the school. Get ready for a lot of milk tea places (or bubble tea, boba, etc.)
The school is located downtown and it’s a bit sketchy at night, but that comes with schools in cities imo. There’s a bit of a homeless population downtown, but most people don’t mind and walk around either way. The streets downtown can get kind of tricky because of all the people and students so it gets a bit crowded.
There’s lots of places to eat and there are several malls/shopping places within driving distance (Great Mall, Westfield Valley Fair, Santana Row, Eastridge Mall, and Oakridge Mall).
The cost of living here is going to be higher than that of Kentucky (San Jose is one of the most expensive cities to live in), however finding a part time job nearby isn’t difficult and the minimum wage here is $13.50.
The weather is kind of wacky here too. One day it’ll be a nice 75 degrees and sunny, the next day it’ll be raining. So bring both warm and cold weather clothing.
The location of San Jose is what makes it such an appealing city imo. It is about an hour away from San Francisco (about an hour ish without traffic, but with traffic it’ll be 2 hours+) and it is about an hour away from several beaches. If you take public transportation, such as our bart train, you can get places pretty easily. I’ve been to San Francisco a couple times taking the bart.
If you don’t plan on bringing you car, there are buses, VTA’s, and ubers and lifts to get you around.
All in all, I’d say San Jose is a pretty nice place to live. The people are mostly pretty friendly and the culture might be different, but it’s not hard to get accustomed to. It’s an easy place to live because everything you need is nearby and convenient.
