San Jose State Majors

My EI is 3,628. I know for San jose it depends largely on your major whether you are admitted or not. My csu gpa is 3.41 and my sat is a 1420. By how much should you exceed the minimum EI for a major to feel safe about being admitted? help please!! any advice

the most recent list of majors and their required index is from 2015. It is at http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-7381.13590.13598.html You can look at earlier years on the website to get a sense of whether the numbers have remained flat or been rising. I don’t think anyone can promise you what the numbers will be for Fall 2016, which seems to be what you’re asking.

Is the index stated the minimum you need to get in with that major? Because I know some people from my high school with lower EI than required for a specific major and still got admitted

I don’t know. Maybe its best to ask them directly. http://www.sjsu.edu/contact/index.html

Okay thank you! Also do you know if it very difficult to switch majors? I heard it depends on the school. Like at cal poly it is nearly impossible to change your major.

Ask them that too. I’m sure it depends on the majors and which are impacted.

@jkoulakani this is right from the SJSU admissions page:

“You cannot change your major during the admission process. Once you are admitted, your mandatory orientation, advising, and registration will all be based on your choice of major or assigned undeclared. After you are admitted, change of major is never guaranteed and is by petition only. You must also enter an alternative major on your application to SJSU. We will use this information for advising purposes only, and will not consider your alternative major in the admission process. Transfer students may not apply as undeclared.”
