San Jose State

Does San Jose State have a good accounting program? Good quality professors, good internship opportunities... Also, how is job placement for students, do a lot of them have to find it themselves or does the school try and help?

jace, this will go along with the post I responded to about your UC inquiry . . .

I know a few SJSU Accounting alumni and they speak highly of the accounting department within SJSU, but not of SJSU as a whole. They often cite slow and confusing administration, and high student body population/commuter school woes. However, you question is about the Accounting program specifically and not the school as a whole, so if you’re willing to put up with those possible examples, then I would say their Accounting program is a good option.

Many professors have extensive work in their field and some are even ex-IRS employees (current employees are even known to drop in on a class now and then). Not sure if Federal Service is your thing, but that connection can possibly be there.

I have heard that SJSU has an accounting honor society that boosts employment opps and they do have career fairs. I am also informed that the Big 4 actively recruit there as an E&Y and PWC building are literally just a few blocks from the campus, not to mention a bunch of banks also in the Downtown SJ area (since you mentioned possibly wanting to go into finance). There is any bank you can imagine in Downtown SJ.
