Sanford Housing

Does anybody know what the pros and cons are of housing at Sanford?

My bro and his gf are recent alumni and they told me that to put Sanford (along with Bailey) at the bottom of my preferences. Not sure exactly about the details though, they may have improved the hall since then, too.

Bailey is still the lowest of the low.

lol thanks thanks y’all, does anybody else have any insight on this one here?

well, it’s located right next to Dinkytown, which may or may not be good (depends on the person). It’s more of an “upperclass” dorm, right? Some of my friends say that Sanford has the best food too. I think I would be fine with Sanford, but I still have Comstock as my number one preference.

I agree, Bailey Hall is death lol.

This is from a high school senior, who is currently attending the U, so I may be wrong.

I live in Bailey and I’d prefer Sanford ** ANY ** day of the week.

I’ve only been there a few times, but from what I know and the people I know who live there:

PROS:

 • Best Food
 • Newly renovated and the rooms are pretty big
 • Closest dorm to restaurants/bars/parties
 • They have a really nice convenience store
 • Elevators

CONS:

 • Located in east jesus nowhere
 • Definitely not on the safest part of campus… we get crime alert emails and most of the crap that happens goes down on that part of campus or within a few blocks
 • Right next to the railroad tracks AND University Avenue so it’s loud

I’d say it’s pretty middle of the pack. Not a bad dorm but the location is inconvenient.

Not the safest part of campus? aaaaiiieee lol

What do you think my chances of getting into that hall are if I put Sanford as my first choice and just completed the housing application today? I’m putting second place as Comstock. But honestly, I’m really not basing this on much at all, lol. It’s a real gamble because I’ve never visited the campus so I really am not going on a lot of information here.
The gamble is fun, I suppose, until I end up in some place that I don’t like. So fingers crossed that I’m doing the right thing here, lol

Try emailing the Housing UofM people. I don’t think you’d be too late since you’re not applying to the supeblocks. Good luck.

I have Comstock as my number one! You should look into that dorm as well.

If you apply today and put Sanford as your #1, I’m about 99% you’ll get Sanford. Which is not bad. The dorm almost has a hotel-esque feel to it.

I agree, Sanford is not that bad. Have you guys seen the new residence hall that is to be completed in Summer 2013? It is off 17th Avenue, right next to Keeler Apartment and the Armory. I didn’t notice that until walking by it today.

^ I walked past there the other day too and got the vibe that it’s NOT “on-campus” and that it’ll be comparable with Floco, 412, Northstar, etc.

It had u of m billboard so it looks like it is affiliated w the university, but I may be wrong. Gosh… floco is so fancy haha. The location looks better, better than Sanford of course.
