Santa Barbara City College Housing

Hi, i am an international student.

I'll be enrolling in SBCC this coming spring 2015 ( a few months away ) and i have a burning question that i need to ask.

If you're living in SB or have lived there before, where would you recommend me to say?

I've looked at the brochures in the acceptance package and the apartment listings on the site, the obvious choices such as Tropicana Gardens, Beach City apartments, SB Coral Group, Buena Vista Apartments etc. have really really bad reviews on the net.

They all look good on paper in terms of the facilities they offer and the rental but especially after reading the reviews there is no way in hell i am comitting to any one of them.

At the moment i don't know where else to look for information on the ideal places to stay for students.

Can anyone suggest a couple places that i should start looking at when i get there in a couple of months?

Honestly, i think my best bet is this, getting there early in January or late in December, staying at a temporary place at 40-50 bucks a night and taking a few days to tour the apartments that are listen on Craigslist.

I would really appreciate it if current/past SBCC/USCB students or SB residents can help me out here.

Where else would be a good place to start a search for a decent place to stay (preferably near SBCC but it's not that big a deal for me) besides craigslist?

Thanks and best wishes.

SBCC is in the high rent district. Students tend to live where the rents are lower, so that means over near UCSB in Goleta or Isla Vista (about 10 miles from SBCC). Are you bringing a car?

I’m an international student so no car for me, at least not for the first 6 months or so until i get a driver’s license.

Thanks, i guess Goleta and IV would be the places i’ll have to look at. I don’t think 10 miles will be a big problem since there’s a bus service. What do you think?

Looks like there’s frequent bus service between UCSB to City College, so you’ll be fine. There’s also a nice series of bike trails around, so that’s a option as well.

I don’t live in SB, but my sister has been living up there for 30 year now (went to UCSB and never left).

If possible, I would check out IV in person to make sure the vibe (party) is ok for you. Good luck!

Awesome, looks like i will have to settle for IV which isn’t the closest to SBCC but that’s a compromise i don’t mind making at all.

Thanks for your help man, appreciate it.

hey there! i’m international students and also spring admits 2015! so have u checked the apartment?

Hey, no i haven’t. i do have a rough idea though but i’ll probably take a tour and check out a few places once i’m there in late Dec-early Jan.
