I have a 3.5 gpa (3.8 if you take out freshmen year), 33 ACT, plenty of EC’s , play soccer, etc etc but got deferred, must’ve been a strong applicant pool this year
Accepted! (EA)
GPA: 3.87 W
ACT: 29
Psychology major in College of Arts and Sciences
I was really proud of my essays and I do a moderate amount of ec’s
Straight Rejected… (EA)
GPA: 3.2 UW/ 3.5 W
ACT 32
Major: Business
Fantastic Essays and a lot of ECs, D1 Waterpolo/Swimming, decent recs and a crazy (14+ APs) course load… GPA hurt me a lot more than I had anticipated. Congrats to everyone else, still a little confused but whatever :-/
Because it is a holistic review, I think you just have to have one outstanding thing to push you to the accepted range.
Accepted for Poli Sci:
cumulative 3.89 GPA (sophomore year screwed me up)
Every year I have increased the number of AP/honors classes, senior year schedule right now is 6 APs
I sent in my 29 ACT score for early action, later got a 34 but that is irrelevant
From that, my stats honestly are not that good at all. I half-assed the app when I turned it in; I didn’t really consider the school until after I turned in the app. Now it is one of my top choices.
My ec’s definitely are what pushed me over the edge.
President and founder of JSA chapter at my school
Chinese Club VP
Environmental Club VP
Key Club, NHS, and CSF life time member
Cheerleading for 4 years and all star, nationally ranked, captain, MVP (all these EC’s are ehhh but it shows I did something)
Cheerleading coach for youth program
Company paid intern for 4 years, now a part of the research team
Most importantly, I was an intern for Congressman Garamendi. I personally made over 7,000 phone calls and knocked on over 200 doors in 8 weeks for his campaign. I was promoted and got a letter of rec from him.
My other letters of recs were okay…I hope. And my essay was extremely personal but I do not know if It set me apart from others, I can post it if anybody wants. My supplement essays were also ehhh. My uncle went here for business school so I guess I am technically a legacy?? But indirect? I don’t know how they do legacies but my parents didn’t go here.
Don’t give up hope! Show that you have academic potential!
Deferred to Regular Decision as a Computer Engineering undergrad:

Ethnicity: Guatemalan and Salvadoran
Hooks: First generation, low-income family, URM, divorced parents, single-parent household
Seriously considering applying for Arts and Sciences for RD because SCU is my first choice. Can I get some opinions?
@sublime25 After submitting my EA application through the Common App site, I realized that I did not include all the extracurriculars that I could have. Is there anyway I could change that for the RD application? Would I have to email them?
Accepted to SCU today for Mechanical Engineering!
Accepted into school of business via ED
GPA: 3.17UW 3.91W (lots of APs)
SAT Composite 1350
Great EC, great essays, no community service
It probably helped that I personally met the dean of admissions and had a 20 min conversation with her at the Open House.
Also, my mom works there (but that’s not supposed to help too much according to reliable sources).
Congrats to everyone else
Accepted to Arts & Sciences!! (Environmental Science)

ACT: composite 31(English 35, Math 28, Science 27, Reading 34)

Also I’m assuming my teacher recs were outstanding because the teachers I picked knew me well and wrote very nice things in my quarterly grade reports.
And I visited campus and corresponded with the admissions director/assistant when she visited my school 2 times.
I was honestly very doubtful since I heard it was more competitive this year, partly since my common app essay and supplements were not as refined as I would have liked. It was the first app I submitted. It was also towards the end of my list when I applied, but now after visiting I am in love with SCU and so thankful I got in! Now hopefully I’ll get some financial aid!
Good luck everyone!!

I saw people asking about merit scholarships. Mine was included in the letter posted on the left side of the portal. Received a Provost scholarship - half tuition.
to @wandersaur , yes, first email your regional rep and tell him/her thanks for giving you an addtional opportunity with RD. if SCU is your first choice, say that you remain very motivated to make it there, demonstrate a lot of interest … say new things that you have missed in your application… don’t make it too long… wait a month and send another email to your rep, showing your grades and any projects you’ve been doing during senior year… Be visible to him/her with several email, or arrange a call, but do not be annoying in the sense of sending an email every couple days, not even weekly … Overall, be genuine, express your interest and why you think you BELONG to SCU and what you can contribute… GOOD LUCK!
seems like admissions is being tougher this year…
Thanks for the info. I’m a little distressed though. Was it in the letter or separate from that? We were hoping for at least some merit aid.
