I recently narrowed down my college choices to SCU and BU, since they gave me the most money. I received a larger financial aid package from BU, but considering travel costs, both SCU and BU would cost about the same, since I live in LA. I don't know what I want to study yet, I'm thinking either business or some pre-professional path (either med, vet, pharm....maybe dental). I come from a small Catholic high school and have never really experienced cold weather or even traditional seasons before. Some of my relatives live nearby Santa Clara. I have never been to Boston, but I think I would like it. I heard BU doesn't even have a real campus, is this true?

BU doesn’t really have a campus. Find it on google maps and sadly you can basically use streetview to view the campus buildings. It is sandwiched between Comm ave and Storrow Drive.

I have lived in Boston for 40 years so I might be biased, but the weather here is horrible. Can you stand it for 4 years? Definitely, and maybe you’ll have some great snowball fights, skiing, ice skating, etc.

BU is MUCH larger than SCU, does this factor in?

I think having family nearby is worth something.

I’m from LA (born and raised) and I just moved to BU this school year! If you’re are doing business, I would pick BU over SCU any day! SCU is really pretty and up north, however BU has a prestige business school. SCU is a religious school (if you are interested). Also, BU does not have a campus feeling, however we do have a campus. All of our dorms/colleges are on Commonwealth Ave. Also, the weather is very cold (if you’re used to the nice LA weather). Prepare for snow, 0 degree weather, humidity. Trust me when I say that I didn’t think I could handle this weather, but I still think it was worth it going here. Message me if you have any more questions :)

SCU has some great internship placements, especially if you may want to work in Silicon Valley. Don’t know as much about BU–they didn’t offer S any $$$ but gave his lab partner good merit and FAid. Especially with the polar vortex, it is cold. Sounds like you’ve never visited–might be a good idea if you can afford the $$$ and time.

Personally, I liked SCU. It was a very neat and fairly compact campus. Many of the students live on or near campus. They are on the shorter quarter system-- believe BU may be on the semester system. This means classes zip along.

Our major issue with SCU was they said they’d require S to withdraw and lose all his merit aid and space in the dorm if he missed two weeks of school in any term, even if he kept up with the work and had medical documentation that if was because of his chronic medical condition. That was the deal breaker.

S could have entered with well over 60 credits and completed a BEE and M engineering in 4 years with all his AP credits. He had several friends and HS classmates that went to SCU and BU. Both are good Us.
