Santa Clara University or UC Irvine

I'm double posting this here and in the SCU thread. I don't know if it's okay. The moderators can take it down if they want. Thanks for reading though.

I'm another one of those people who just can't choose which college to go to with a couple days left. I can't choose between SCU or UCI.

For UCI, I applied into their Economics Department. If I go, its a major in economics and a minor in accounting.

For SCU, I applied into their Business school, the Leavey School of Business. I plan to do accounting with a minor in marketing or communications or even history.

For UCI, I got no money. SCU gave me $6,000.

I live 20 minutes from SCU, 8 hours from UCI.

If you want to throw it in there, I am autistic with a dash of Asperger's Syndrome.

Both SCU and UCI have what I want academically. UCI has what I want socially but I'm not sure if that should make a difference. I've talked to a ton of people and they seem to lean towards SCU with the exception of a few; those within my family and a couple of friends, one of whom has a dad who works at SCU. All the adults I know say SCU because of the great student-teacher interaction as well as the Jesuit Education, which teaches people to be their best. If you want all the factors, you can go to my xanga too-- http://www.xanga.com/Geo_Freak/4758...university.html

So my question(s) are:

1) Should I go to SCU, even if I'm paying 39k/year?

2) Should distance matter?

3) Is the 39k worth it? Is the school overhyped?

4) How hard are the classes?

Thanks.

go to uci, i don't think santa clara is worth 39K a year. I'm pretty sure more than anything, UCSC even outshines santa clara.

SCU is a small school where you are given personal attention. Let me tell you, SCU is underhyped in terms of academics: first rate professors and top notch education. The business school is probably the best in terms of undergraducate academics. The thing about SCU is that you're likely to get a job around the Bay Area if you have a degree from there. The classes are within the expected range of difficulty. You might end up in a class with an excentric mathematicien who gives a 70 as his best grade, but usually, if you do the work and study, you should do very well.

I know little about UCI, so I don't want to say anything about it. I've heard it's a very good school, but that's all I know. It's probably ranked higher than SCU.

And SCU is much better than UCSC. The academics at SCU are amazing. In my opinion, it's the student body that might hold them backa bit. If they were to gain prestige and make the application process more selective, I imagine SCU would be much more highly regarded.

SCU is not worth 39K a year, es[ecially when you can pay for 2 or 3 years at UCI with 39K. Save the money for grad school.

the only private schools worth attending and taking out 39K a year in cali would be claremont/stanford/caltech/pomona. and that's that if you can get into these schools you can also get into ucla and ucb, and you might as well take the bargain and take berkeley or la.
